The paint on this vehicle has bubbled and fell off the car, all over the car in various places. There does not appear to be a pattern to the damage, except where the window wash squirts there is some discoloration and rust. Preventative measures have no affect on the paint coming off as multiple washes and or waxes do/ did nothing to prevent it from continuing. Part of the damage follows a rivet or welding line on the hood where it is welded to braces on the bottom of the hood, other places appear to be high wind or high stress areas. The paint feels fragile, has no resistance to breakage and appears to be a well known defect when researched. Sanding, resurfacing and repainting helps some, but unless the whole car is redone it is ugly and very hard to control and it is also disappointing.

While driving at dusk on my way home (with my 5 year old little girl!), my headlights shut off without warning! we were fortunate that several drivers in the oncoming lane were concerned and conscientious and flashed their high beams to signal that something was wrong. Deductively, I ruled out my lights being off because the switch was on. That was until the traffic light turned red and I saw no reflection on the back of the car in front of me! I flipped the switch off then back on again to see if it was a bad connection in the switch or perhaps it was between positions and would possibly work if I repositioned it. No good! ugh, the light went green! I nervously pulled at the bright light selector to see if they worked! just in time to barely miss the SUV that obviously did not see us!!! I did not let it go until we were safe at home!!! phew!!! I guess now would be the time to change my pants!

The contact owns a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact noticed paint chipping on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. She took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that the roof was also chipping. The contact noticed that in certain weather conditions the paint would chip more frequently and in larger portions. The manufacturer admitted that this failure was a result of manufacturing, and assumed responsibility for half of the damages to the vehicle. The vehicle has not yet been repaired. The failure mileage was 41,000 and current mileage was 41,025.
