Rear-ended a snow plow going 30-35 mph when I was going 60 mph and the driver-side airbag failed to deploy resulting in serious injury.

Mariner 4WD 4-cyl

This problem occurs on my 2007 Mercury Mariner hybrid with less than 2,500 miles. When there is a front seat adult passenger the light on the dash intermittently lights to state "pass airbag off". the only other time this light is illuminated is briefly during start up. It is the intermittent nature of this light coming on and going off when there is a passenger that causes anxiety for the driver and passenger. There have only been adult passengers in this vehicle. I have taken the vehicle to the Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealer and the service advisor said there was nothing that could be done to fix this situation. She suggested that the passenger sit in the back seat. This is an unacceptable solution.
