The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that when fuel was pumped into the fuel tank, the fuel spewed back out of the tank and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve cracked, causing the fuel tank to leak. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,000.

While passing three semi trucks in the third lane of a highway at 70 mph, the engine power cut out. Navigating across three lanes of highway through multiple vehicles was terrifying. My life was placed with in jeopardy, yet the Ford Motor Company refuses to recognize its throttle body control problem as a safety issue.

(1) May 5, 2015: In traffic 65mph on MA rt3S, engine "blubbered" then died in left lane. Succeeded not being hit by vehicles, parked on shoulder. Wrench light lit. Engine finally started and ran ok after 15 minutes; (2) June 6, 2015: Pulling into 99 restaurant, quincy, MA, car suddenly died, wrench light lit. Car was not completely within the lot. Car pushed into lot with the help of three males. Car started after C. 12 minutes.; (3) June 24, 2015: Exiting betsy's diner, falmouth, MA on RT28 in traffic, car blubbered then died, wrench light lit. Black Dodge Ram narrowly missed us! car started with 3-5 minutes; (4) October 2, 2015: On MA tpk, I-90W in fast traffic, car lost power, blubbered, then died in front of the charlton state police station. Engine re-started within 12 minutes, ran roughly for a few minutes, then cleared, ran ok; (5) October 7, 2015: 1315, engine shook then died two blocks after leaving car wash on centre street, quincy, MA, wrench lit. Narrow street. Lit the hazard flashers, exited car. After 15 minutes re-entered car which started after 3 attempts; (6) October 7, 2015: 1405: Within a block after leaving our house, the car engine again blubbered then died, wrench lit. Pulled to the curb, sat for five minutes. Car was restarted. Three times I have brought my Milan to our local automotive guru who attached his scanner and conformed 2111 code and 2112 codes (2). I purchased the car from enterprise sales rentals at 24,000 miles, now 58,000 miles. Never have received a recall notice of any type. Research indicates a number of tsbs related to throttle body issues but no notice from fomoc or local dealer. There is potential for being killed in this car. How to get the car properly repaired?

First of all this has happened on several occasions. Driving down the interstate the car will stall and begin to shake and puts a wrench icon on the dash, the vehicle has no response to the acceleration pedal. I have to pull over and sh U think the car off a few minutes and then go again. It has also happened several times while pulling across traffic from a stop, one time nearly getting me hit from oncoming traffic. It is impossible to tell when or where this will happen. I have called Ford and was denied a repair because my VIN was not on the recall list for the throttle body even though it has the same problem as the ones covered. I have had the diagnostic test and received codes that match as well.

While driving my car on the interstate in a construction zone the engine lost all power and dropped to around 1000 RPM no matter if I pressed on the accelerator or not. I was nearly rear-ended by a semi and there was no emergency lane for me to pull the car over to. It costed for about 3/4 of a mile until I could pull behind some orange barriers. After shutting it off and calling roadside assistance I restarted the car and it was fine. I took back roads home without incident. The next day while going 65 on the interstate it happened again but I was prepared for a problem and was able to get to an emergency lane to turn the car off. It restarted fine and drove fine again until the next day when it happened at 20mph on a city street. The dealer has had it for 3 days now and have not identified the issue.

The fuel tank has a developed a crack. This has been examined by a certified mechanic who concluded the crack is a manufacturing defect and not the result of any sort of road debris or anything striking the tank. The mechanic indicates this type of crack is common in the Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion.

The vehicle suddenly stalled while driving at highway speeds (55mph) in heavy traffic. Rapid deceleration and many dashboard lights came on. I was able to change to the right lane and then bring the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder safely, avoiding an accident, as the car was in rapid deceleration and stepping on the gas was unresponsive. There was no acceleration, or engine noise or response when I stepped on the gas pedal while in drive position and the key in the on position.I turned the car off for several minutes, wondering what to do. I then turned the key back on, and the car was able to drive. I took side roads home and then scheduled an appointment at the selling manufacturer dealership. The defect was in the throttle body? they would not cover the $500 repair under the new vehicle warranty (out on time), the $1700 extended warranty I purchased (not covered part), the emissions warranty (not covered part) or the hybrid warranty ( not covered part), or any recall, or goodwill service plan or service bulletin repairs. Then I found out there was a settlement with the NHTSA for similar incidents that Ford agreed to extend the warranty on the throttle body for 150,000 miles or 10 years. (this vehicle is a 2010 with just over 20,000 miles. They said it is not covered under the settlement because it a hybrid and they were not included in the settlement. I think that this premature failure of an item that they will replace if defective in 150,000 miles or ten years as part of a settlement to avoid a recall and associated public disclosure, should be covered under the agreement. I have the part from the dealer. Even though there are fewer hybrids on the road as a statistic, it only takes one failure to cause a tragic result. I can send the part for investigation to determine if there were not enough suppliers and parts identified prior to the settlement.

I was merging onto a highway going about 60 mph. My car suddenly went into an idle and the wrench icon came on in the indicator dash. Luckily, I was able to pull over to the shoulder and no vehicle was behind me. I turned off the car and was then able to accelerate. Later in the day, I was again driving on the highway at about 65 mph. When the same thing happened. I then went directly to a Ford dealer. They immediately knew what the problem was and said Ford had extended their warranty on this problem to 120,000 miles. This is ridiculous! I am sure someone will and probably have been fatally injured because of this issue.there needs to be a recall!!

Driving thru town at approx 30 mph the vehicles warning lights flashed for check engine and the throttle control warning (wrench) illuminated. The vehicle would not respond to any activation of the gas peddle and drifted to idle power. Not understanding what went wrong, I shut the car down and restarted it to clear the faults. I re-entered traffic and proceeded about 50 ft before it happened again. I proceeded to follow the same reset process and was able to limp the car home. The car was towed away and repaired by replacing the electronic throttle body. Research shows that since 2004 Ford has known that this problem exists and that the engine design default is to bring the car down to idle power. Internet chat boards have stories of this happening on highways at high rates of speed. Ford claims there is no recall because the government (you guys) have not required them to do so despite the failure mode, and public safety implications, being exactly the same as NHTSA action number PE13031. Ford fixed the problem recently but did not scrap old defective inventory and refuses to fix those suspect parts on our roads. They have calculated the costs and choose to risk public safety instead of a recall.

Throttle body failed without warning. Car immediately lost power and had no accelerator response and would only idle. This would have been dangerous had the vehicle not been in an area where it was immediately safe to pull over. Throttle body was changed, the second time it's happened to this vehicle.

While traveling at 55mph my vehicle stalled, lost all power and came to a stop at the side of the road. It was restarted several times each time with the wrench symbol illuminated. Was only able to drive home at 45mph and the car bucked and stalled two times. Will be calling Ford for repair. Luckily I signed up for the extended service plan when I purchased this vehicle as a certified pre owned car at the dealership. This is obviously a throttle body issue which I will be explaining to the tech's when I bring it in for repair. And more importantly, this is a major safety issue for the occupants of this car and other cars involved if an accident were to occur.

Driving down the highway through town and vehicle died multiple times in the middle of the street causing me to narrowly avoid an accident with my three small children in the car. Upon further inspection of the throttle body assembly, I discovered that the problem is a $20-$60 electric motor that Ford uses to run the throttle body the throttle body is not strong enough to do the job for a very long period of time causing the throttle body to go out at around 50000 - 60000 miles. I was a mechanic for Ford for 7 years before joining the army and have seen this issue with this exact model throttle body plenty of times. Ford could easily sell the replacement electric motor for the price listed above, but instead they prefer to price gouge their customers by forcing them to pay over $200 for the whole new throttle body assembly. Also according to our local Ford parts dealer it is such a common part that needs replaced that the keep 3-4 on hand at all times.

I was driving on the highway, on my way home when my car seemed liked it stalled. The wrench image on the dash board appeared, and I coasted my car off of the highway because I was coming up to an exit. Once my car slowed down to about 10-15 mph the car seemed like it was actually jumping, or bucking and trying to drive at a very slow pace. I pulled the car over to the side of the road, and shut the care off. I restarted the car, and the samething happened with the motor running rough, and the image of the wrench on my dash appearing. I shut the car off again, and let it sit for a couple of minutes, and restarted the car while holding the throttle down, and the car seemed to function fine after that. This also happened the next day on my way to work same exact scenario just a different place on the highway.

Driving freeway at 77 mph when vehicle suddenly started slowing down. Managed to get car over to shoulder of road and tried to get off ramp but wouldn't make it. No lights came on and felt like it was still running at idle. Stepped on gas but wouldn't accelerate in drive or park. Shut vehicle off and started twice before I could get response from stepping on gas. Then took off like nothing wrong. Very dangerous and lucky traffic was light. Had one other incident with car doing same thing but was sitting at traffic light.

While driving down the highway experienced a total loss of acceleration. Car still maintained an idle but no matter how many times I pressed the pedal to the floor it would not recognize me doing so. (kind of like and older vehicle with a cable just breaking). Fortunately it did not effect steering or braking but it was quite challenging to get to the side of the road. If I shut of vehicle and restarted gas pedal works fine again. I immediately contacted a master Ford tech that I know personally and he informed me that more than likely it was the electronic throttle body that there has been many complaints and replacements done on that particular engine recently in their shop. Due to the lack of funds I continued driving the vehicle and have experienced the same problem a minimum of 8 times in 3 weeks. I no longer will allow my wife to drive car until I can repair.

The car loses power while driving, the wrench light comes on and then I have to pull over to the side of the road, it has also happened on the highway which is scary? also the car sometimes has an idle problem, like its trying not to stall, but causes the car to jump a little while at stop lights. Also when I get gas, the car does not want to start, but if I leave the car running while getting gas the car is fine.
