I heard on the radio that there is an investigation into 2002 my Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer. I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer that seems to have the same problem. I have had it to the dealership several times and they refuse to admit there is a problem.

Consumer noticed while traveling at any speed gas pedal would stick. Dealer have been contacted. Mr this condition increased to 2 to 4 times a day. Dealer could not find anything wrong.

At 25 mph while applying gas pedal, engine revved, but vehicle slowed down instead. Took to dealer who found transmission needed to be replaced. Ford will replace it with remanufactured transmission. Traveling at 30-40 mph, the transmission slipped badly.
