Transmission problem has been analyzed several times by both Ford dealer and other shops. They feel solenoids internally have failed and transmission must be rebuilt/replaced. Vehicle does not shift properly, will not go into overdrive (4th gear). Loss of cruise control. What shifting remains is erratic. Speedometer gear drive sheared off and was replaced before full extent of problem became known. In reading on the net about other people with same problem, appears solenoid failure in this transmission is common and premature.

This is the 2nd transmission to blow in this car! the first one went at 43,500. I reported this to you on 4/28/99 in your database! three years later same month my 2nd one blew out and now I have to pay another 2,000 bucks for what clearly is a defective Ford transmission! why has NHTSA not done anything about this! when it blew out I was going 55 miles an hour and I was almost rear-ended by an 18 wheeler! this has been a problem for years. NHTSA is good at authoring a recall on seatbelts and cup-holders but when it comes to a high priced part you do nothing as the consumer continues to get raped! thanks alot NHTSA!

Rpms running at 400-600 RPM's in drive, idle causes it to shake. Normally it runs 800-1000rpms. Consumer went to dealer regarding tsb, understanding that it was not a recall. Transmission is going bad because it's too close to engine. Dealer will fix the problem at consumer's cost.

Since we have purchased this car its been nothing but problems. The first thing was the blower for the heater and air conditioner was making a loud rattling noise.then the brain for the transmission went out and would not allow the car to shift automatically. Next, the power steering pump leaked, so that had to be repaired. Then, here comes a good one...the front left rotor and calipor went bad..now this is even better, two weeks ago on the 11th of January, the 2 rear coil springs broke without warning, almost causing my wife to loose control of the car. This also caused the rear brakes to seize up and warp the rotors and calipors. I informed Ford of the problem and they responded "thank you for letting us know of your problems, this will help us build better products in the future." We have a case id # 189341, this is the number Ford gave us. Thank you for listening to our problems, hopefully you can help us and many others that have had similar problems get some real results!!S

This Mercury Mystique has been a problem from the first time I drove it. All of the recalls were serviced by the dealer but I also experienced both front struts breaking, the front spring breaking, the front rotors cracking and the list goes on. The last straw was when the transmission failed at 74,000. The complete unit was replaced at a cost of over $2,000!! I've read the list of complaints on the 95' Mystique and it's makes me want to cry. I will never by a Ford product again.

Throttle sticks at wide open position. This caused damage to the transmission, which now grinds when shifting into third gear. The driveshaft was replaced due to noise and vibration at a cost of $1,100, but this did not fix the problem. The heater fan switch has failed twice. The first time it was covered under a voluntary program.

At around 38000 miles, the starter gear split in half, causing starter failure. The component was inspected by both an independent mechanic and a Ford service technician, and both agreed that the part failed because of a defect. After driving the vehicle about 2000 miles, apparently a piece of the broken starter entered the transmission housing and destroyed the clutch and ring gear, and punched a hole in the transmission housing. I believe this to be a safety issue because the technician told me that the problem was severe enough that it could have caused transmission or clutch parts to actually break off at road speed, possibly entering the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

At the speed of 55 mph the car shuts down in the rain or the transmisson slips in and out of gears. Recently the check engine light appeared with the air conditioner. I believe its an ongoing electrical issue.
