Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

1998 Mercury Sable Owner Comments

problem #3

Feb 012009

  • 94,100 miles

The contact owns a 1998 Mercury Sable. While driving 45 mph, the driver's side tire suddenly blew out. There was no crash as a result of the failure. An independent mechanic assisted the contact with placing the spare tire on the vehicle and then informed him that the coil spring was the cause of the blow out. The dealer stated that only 1999-2001 Sable were included in NHTSA campaign id number 04V332000 (suspension:front:springs:coil springs). He spoke with the manufacturer and they confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The current and failure mileages were approximately 94,100.
