The contact owns a 2000 Mercury Sable. While backing out of the driveway at 5 mph, the rear passenger side tie rod end failed and nearly punctured the tire. The dealer stated that the failure was due to faulty struts, but the vehicle was safe to drive. A local mechanic stated that the struts were not the cause of the failure, but rather the tie rod end on the passenger side of the vehicle. On January 4, 2008, the dealer replaced the tie rod end at the cost of $142.42. The failure mileage was 129,001 and current mileage was 130,004.
