Are you kidding me?? I inherited a 2002( well taken care of) Sable GS with only 29K from a family member. At 39k the transmission froze and snapped the axle. So after researching this poorly made under powered car i found a history of this problem. Were those engineers smokin at break time? The torque converter spline was stripping. All these testimonials prove it. How did ford get away without making this a recall?? ANYTHING THAT PUTS PEOPLES LIVES AT RISK SHOULD BE A RECALL plain and simple. ARE YOU KIDDING ME ??

Daughter was driving car in the center of town when the car would not move. After police arrived had it towed to local repair shop. Where we found out it was the transmission, had to have towed to another shop. The transmission shop knew exactly what the problem was and said the torque converter was cheaply designed and I could thank Ford for the repair. He said he has fixed several and they come in on a regular basis.

Need Mr. Ford to step up to the plate. I'm sure his new Ford is driving nicely but I can't afford a new car. If the torque converter repair was an unusual repair I could almost say this might be a one off but when you see hundreds of cars with the same bad torque converter. COME ON, DUE THE RIGHT THING FORD. Don't forget to see my other Ford complaint issues. I NEED HELP FROM FORD- WILL YOU STEP UP AND HELP THIS PERSON THAT HAS STOOD BEHIND FORD FOR MANY MANY YEARS. I have owned a Ford Fairmont, Granada, Pinto, Maverick, Torino Elite(This one was good)I now own my third Sable and have owned two Taurus's. I WANT TO BELIEVE. NEED FORD TO SHOW ME THEY CARE!!!!

Sable GS 3.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 103,000 miles

My wife and I were on our way home from shopping, just driving and talking when the motor just revved up and nothing, no gears, no forward or reverse. I had to tow it home and then to a transmission shop. The shop told me that he had 23 cars Taurus and Sables come in this last year, that's about 1 every other week. It cost me $1157 to fix, it was the torque converter. The mechanic said the spline inside the torque converter strips out and OEM are the same way, he recommended an aftermarket one. This sounds like a very common problem and Ford should stick behind the products they sell!!! I have always driven Fords but was very unhappy when this happened.
