I've read many reviews stating the passenger airbag light on due to failure in seat. I've seen too many, this is definitely a safety issue. Why isn't there a recall for this?

Discovered by my local mechanic who did the research to find the complaints here and on NHTSA. Have not determined whether the problem is just the lights or if the airbags will not work. Will call the dealer next and get the resultant answer in writing.

I test drove this car and the seat belt and airbag lights alerted. Sales guy said it would be fixed before I took possession of the vehicle. I took possession and the lights were off. I am usually the sole occupant of the car. Two days after purchase, I was the passenger of my car and the lights alerted again! I contacted the dealer and took it back, they said it was just a code that needed to be "cleared". I drove off and it happened again, this time with no passenger in the seat. I take it back again to the dealer and they tell me it's showing a passenger seat belt code and they would order the part and replace it for me. I drive home in an unsafe car and wait. A week goes by and no word. I call and they tell me the part is not in yet. Another week goes by and they now tell me the part is in but they are having a hard time to fit me into their schedule. I call again today and the guy tells me it's a "recall issue I need to take up with BMW". I tell him the recall does NOT include my model year of 2009. He hangs up on me after that. I am on my way down there now after typing this. Fix it or take this unsafe car back!

I took my car into the auto shop for routine oil change and to check the air bag light since it came on at 56,000 miles. I figured it was an error and just needed to be reset, after a diagnostic was done I was told I would need to pay $1,100 for a part that's currently on back order in Germany and I wouldn't be able to buy one till April 2016. This is a major problem for a number of reasons. One, it is a safety hazard and somebody can DIE. Two I cannot see my speedometer when I am driving so I no longer know how fast I am going. I am very upset when I expressed this concern to Mini Cooper Corporate Customer Service and they didn't seem to care and told me the 2009 is not part of the 2008 air bag recalls. ARE YOU SERIOUS? THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I NEVER WOULD EXPECT THIS FROM BMW/MINI... Filing a complaint with the BBB, I wouldn't doubt if there is injury/death (I hope not) for a major lawsuit to start a recall... we all need to file complaints this is absurd they don't care about their customers safety.

The front passenger airbag got disconnected and lights indicating that the airbag is off remains on at all times. Light indicating that the passenger seatbelt is not fasten (while there is nobody on the seat) is also on at all times. I took my car to an independent mechanic who told me after inspection (I had to pay $95 for the inspection) that the entire seat had be replaced and that the parts and labor cost $1100.

This is a very serious situation since the airbag will not operate in case of accident.

My seat belt warning would appear even though driver and passenger were buckled. Bell would sound and then stop. Some time after, maybe 1,2 weeks Airbag light would appear whenever passenger seat was occupied. Warning icon is off when seat is empty. My mechanic removed passenger seat to check for faulty wiring and found nothing. He called dealer to buy necessary replacement electronics to fix problem. Dealer told mechanic that problem can only be fixed at his location because of special equipment required.

Dealer claims there is no recall for this problem, although current TV news reports a Japanese Air Bag manufacturer just announced a massive recall. I don't know if Mini Cooper will be included or who makes the Mini Air Bags.

Anyone with info please post it. Thanks,
