Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2012 Mitsubishi I-MIEV. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign numbers: 19V804000 (Service, Brake, Hydraulic), 17V022000 (Air Bags), and 15V594000 (Air Bags) however, the contact stated there was no local dealer in their area to do the recall repairs. When they reached out to the manufacturer, they were informed to find a local authorized dealer, when the contact found an independent mechanic to do the recall repairs, the manufacturer would not authorize the independent mechanic to do the recall repairs. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Brakes suddenly became very difficult to operate. The problem was the brake vacuum pump. The dealer reported to me that the brake vacuum pump has been replaced in 2013 as a safety recall. Apparently the replacement pump does not fix the problem. The replacement brake vacuum pump replacement is not durable. I was charged $1,300 to have it replaced. The brake vacuum pump had seized internally.

Brake vacuum pump has failed there have been 2 previous recalls relating to this vacuum pump. My pump has been replaced once under the first recall. It was not replaced under the second recall (NHTSA id: 14V522), during which "dealers will either reprogram the brake vacuum pump controller, replace the brake vacuum pump or do both, free of charge." Mitsubishi considers their responsibility fulfilled. I should not have to pay ($846 for the part) to replace this clearly problematic part. I have spoken to the dealership, and to Mitsubishi of North America and received no help.

The I-miev was being operated in a shopping center parking lot at an unknown speed when it hit a parked car a and pushed a into parked car B. the driver's airbag in the I-miev deployed. The driver did not appear to be affected by the airbag deployment, according to witnesses, and was cogent and conversational. The I-miev was towed away due to front fender damage impeding the tire. The driver was prescribed the blood thinner warfin at the time of the accident. The driver continued with the daily routine and was reported to have shown no effects of the accident until 6 hours later. At that point the driver collapsed into a coma and never recovered. The driver was transported to a hospital er where a catscan showed a subdural hematoma. The cause of death per the death certificate was complications of subdural hematoma; blunt force trauma to the head; and motor vehicle accident. There are no warnings to not ride in the front seat of a vehicle with airbags while on blood thinner. The blunt force of the airbag deployment caused the trauma to the head leading to the subdural hematoma of the driver on warfin. How often has this happened" why are there not any warnings about the danger of airbag deployment for those on blood thinners? the comparison to airbag deaths to front-seated children is stark. Now children are required to sit in the back seat to avoid airbag decapitation. How many people on blood-thinners have die before action is taken"
