These vehicles can suddenly become impossible to start thanks to a faulty electronic steering column lock (ESCL). Nissan dealers will gladly replace it, but that will run you $1000.

The drivers power lock has stopped working, both opening and closing. This leaves the drivers door lock in a different state than the others. This is a safety hazard because it gives a false sense of security.

The contact owns 2010 Nissan Altima. The contact was driving approximately 15 mph when the contact accidentally engaged the electronic control, causing the trunk to open. The contact stated there is no inner lock on the control to prevent the trunk from opening while driving. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for repairs. The failure mileage was 700.
