I also own a 2014 Altima like everyone else on here. I can't drive on the highway with out baby sitting the steering wheel every 2 seconds. I noticed it right off the bat when I bought it in august 2014 and I now have 9500 miles and its been to two separate dealers 4 times and its had 2 alignments which is not the correction. I believe the problem is the electro hydraulic steering is being over compensated when you move the wheel. It has a hydraulic steering rack and a electric pump that runs it. The service manager at my local dealer admits there is a problem but puts no problem found on my paper work when I pick up the car. I have been in contact with Nissan and I am somewhat getting the run around from them.

This is ridiculous and hopefully they buy the car back

Needs constant correction at any speed, get more pronounced at higher speeds.. Worst steering ever! Terrible on the highway, I constantly end up drifting off my lane if I take my eyes off the road even for half a sec! And the steering is extremely heavy when I correct it too!! Have to drive with both hands if you don't want to end up in a tree.. Thought I needed to get 'used' to it.. but after 6 weeks I realize it's the car, everyone who drives my car on the highway notices it right away.. Wish Nissan would own up the problem and issue a recall..

On the very first day of purchasing my 2014 Nissan (2.5 SV) Altima, I noticed on the drive home, that the car was swerving in and out of the lane and I was the malfunction, as I thought to myself that this was a new car and could possible just be me. However, after going one more than a few road trips, I realized that this steering problem (the car swerving in and out of the lane) is a manufacturer defect. I must constantly battle to keep the my Nissan Altima in it's lane. This steering defect is dangerous. I took my car back to the David McDavid dealership in Houston. The mechanic claims to have driven the car and found there to not be any problem with the steering. but as I see in all the other complaints that i have read, it is typical for the the dealership and Nissan to lie and deny. I regret buying this car and I am almost convinced to never buying another Nissan product again!

Wife loved the car at first, but hates it now. Wteering is awful. We have 28000 miles on it now and hate to go anywhere in it, all it does is wander the road at highway speeds the car is bad ....just came back from Florida in it, drive was horrible ..had 18 wheeler start blowing at us because the car started coming into his lane. My wife asked what did he blow at , I told her don't know, she is already scared enough about driving the car ..I had a beat up 20 year old 4x4 on 35 inch tires that handled better than this junk...I would only recommend this car to someone I don't like. Nissan needs to fix or buy back car. They better hope no one gets hurt in this thing...we had a 2009 Altima before this great car thought this would be also ..if Nissan don't fix it or make it right it will be our last.

Altima 2.5 SV 2.5L 182 Hp I4

  • CVT transmission
  • 1,500 miles

I noticed this about a week after purchasing the car. I was cruising at about 50 MPH on the highway. It was my first day at work after leasing the car. I had one hand on the steering wheel and the other adjusting the side mirrors. I was on a straight path of road, when suddenly, the car started to turn to the right slowly but surely. I did not notice until 1/4 of the car was in the lane next to me! My wife drove it and she noticed it to.

I took it to the dealership the day after, and they test drove it. The person driving it came back and said they did not notice anything. They offered to replace the steering column. I do not want to replace the steering column because it could be something different than the steering column that is causing this and if it is, it would just be a waste of time. I also do not want to break from the lease, because other than that problem, I love the car! If only Nissan would own up to this, then I can get it fixed! But alas, that might not happen until 10 years from now!

Altima S 2.5L

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima S which I leased in April 2014. I noticed a problem with the steering when I drove it home from the dealership after signing the papers to lease it. I thought maybe it was just me, so had my son drive the car and he noticed the same thing. It just seems that you have to keep moving the steering wheel to keep it straight, but not because the cars alignment was off. When I took the car back to the dealership for the first oil change, I mentioned the problem to them. They checked it out and even had me ride with the mechanic on the highway and he didn't see any problem with it. OK, so I guess it was just all in my head, right? Well, after reading others comments, I was glad to see that other people had the same problem. But I guess it's a lost cause trying to get the dealership to admit there is a problem. On long trips, my arm actually starts to ache from holding the steering wheel to keep the car from constantly drifting. I had planned to keep this car after the lease was up (2 more years), but am having second thoughts about it now.

THIS CAR IS NOT SAFE.

In January 2015, I bought a used 2014 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL and traded in my 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5 S. At speeds 50 mph and above the steering is atrocious on this car. I am constantly correcting my steering and battling to stay in my lane. My worst nightmare is having to go on a road trip and dealing with this for 8 hours straight... I took my car into the dealership and they said there is nothing wrong (of course there isn't but he was too busy to come for a test drive to feel it himself). Other than the steering, I love the car. If Nissan is unwilling to come up with a solution my next step is to battle Nissan to buy back the car.

Has anyone heard anything about a solution or successfully convinced Nissan to buy back the car?

Altima SV 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 7,532 miles

I drive daily on highways at about 60 to 65 mph and I have to constantly correct the steering on my 2014 Nissan Altima in order to keep a straight line. It is really annoying and tardy to do so not to mention dangerous. Today I was really upset because the weather.com showed 2 mph wind and clear skis, perfect driving conditions, but I was experiencing cross winds like movement from my vehicle.

Something needs to be done about it since it is really dangerous and not to mention when you drive with actual cross winds. I can't wait for that, NOT!

OUR FAMILY USED TO BE TOYOTA CAR OWNERS, BUT WE GOT BORED OF IT AND DECIDED THIS TIME WE TRY NEW CAR COMPANY. SO WE BOUGHT NISSAN ALTIMA 2014 SV. DID THE TEST DRIVE AND ALL WENT SMOOTH. WE GET THE CAR AND AFTER 500 MILES I STARTED NOTICING THE CAR NEEDED CONSTANT CORRECTION ON SPEED OVER 40MPH. COUPLE OF TIMES I THOUGHT IT WAS THE ROADS. BUT NOW I AM CONVINCED THERE IS SOME ISSUE WITH THE CAR STEERING AND REQUEST NISSAN TO GET THIS PROBLEM FIXED BEFORE ANYONE GETS IN CRASH. IF YOU ARE DRIVING IN A SNOWY REGION YOU MIGHT HAVE TO HOLD THAT WHEEL FOR DEAR LIFE.

OTHER THAN THAT I'M QUITE HAPPY WITH NEW ALTIMA. GIVES ME 30 MPG PER GALLON . LOVE IT

Drive this garbage over 55mph and you'll find yourself performing dozens of steering corrections on the highway! It looks like you're driving drunk!

The only peace of mind i have is knowing that in two more years i can return this piece of trash because i LEASED IT! I've sued nissan back in 05 for my sentra that i bought brand new and they wouldn't take it back (i can't blame any one for not taking trash back) but they gave me $5k so i can trade it in to any dealer or sell it and cover the depreciation. I decided to give them another chance with this altima, but this is even worse. I've learned my lesson - NEVER AGAIN TO NISSAN TRASH!

Steering wheel gave me problems from day one, took it back to Auto Nation Nissan, they stated it was from manufacturing that the steering wheel was not centered, they stated they fixed it but it's still pulling to the sides. I have not taking it back again, it's been 6 months now. I guess I am getting used to it.

THE NEW ELECTRO HYDRAULIC STEERING ON 2013+ ALTIMAS APPEARS TO HAVE A FAULTY SOFTWARE. IT DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE VEHICLE SPEED SENSITIVE/PROPORTIONAL AT ALL! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND TIRESOME TO DEAL WITH. NORMALLY, POWER STEERING ESPECIALLY THE ELECTRICALLY ASSISTED STEERING WILL EMPLOY SPEED SENSITIVITY WHICH WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO MOVE THE WHEEL AT LOWER SPEEDS AND HARDER ON HIGHER SPEEDS. THIS IS NECESSARY TO KEEP THE VEHICLE STEADY AND CORRECTED INSTEAD OF WANDERING AND NEEDING TO BE OVER-CORRECTED. A CORRECTLY FUNCTIONING ELECTRO STEERING SHOULD THEREFORE MAKE THE STEERING TIGHT AT HIGH SPEEDS > 60 MPH TO KEEP THE CAR CENTERED ON THE ROAD AND GIVE STABILITY TO THE RIDE. ALL ALTIMAS IN THIS GENERATION APPEAR TO EXHIBIT THIS ISSUE INCLUDING THIS CAR GURUS REVIEW - HTTP://WWW.CARGURUS.COM/CARS/2014-NISSAN-ALTIMA-OVERVIEW-C24167. THIS IS A MUST RECALL ITEM.

I have a 2014 Nissan Altima SV and going above 50mph I have to keep correcting the steering on the freeway. This is pretty tiring after a while of driving. My Honda or Camry do not have this problem and is comfortable to drive with one hand.

Altima SV 2.5L

Around town and below 50mph everything seemed OK. This past week the wife and I took a little trip (600 miles r/trip) and noticed that at anything north of 65mph, constant steering corrections were necessary to go in a straight line! On one long curved exit ramp (1/4 mile?) my wife made 14 steering corrections. This car is very tiring to drive.

Hey Nissan, give me my money and my 2006 Altima back and we will call it even. Should have bought the Kia Optima. Steers worse than any thing that I have driven in the last 44 years!

Steering is the big issue for me.. Under normal driving condtions the car is fine... but during Freeway Speeds over 65 MPH the steering is needing constant adjustment... and if there is a light wind.. watch out... you better have both hands on the wheel..... I've checked my tire pressure, and alignment, and both are good.... My Appt with the dealer is today... so we'll see what they say... I'm not very optimistic after reading the other complaint...

Altima S 2.5L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

I leased this 2014 Nissan Altima in December 2013 after owning a 2011 Nissan Altima, the 2011 was fine, I just wanted the new style. At first it seemed fine, a little light in weight but good gas mileage. I drove the car locally not too much on the highway in Fl. I moved to GA. where I do more highway driving.

I now have 3000 miles on the car when I noticed when I drove over 50 mph you have to keep correcting the steering. I went to the first dealer and they aligned the car, no help. It's a struggle to drive this car. The service manager told me that's the way all the 2014 Altima's steer with the new electronic assisted steering, he said you have to learn how to drive it. I told him I been driving for 40 years and shouldn't have to learn how to steer a car. It's a bad, cheep, design. I called the corp. office, they sent me to a second dealer, they told me the same thing, that's the way they all drive, no results.

The first dealer did tell me I wasn't the only person that complained about the steering, but not enough for a recall. I am so pissed I want to drop the car in their lap. I since test drove other cars with electronic assist steering, Chevy and Toyota they did not have any steering issues. I am waiting for a call from corp. office but I'm sure the're going to blow me off. I just wanted to get this out there.

So beware, the car is very hard to keep straight, heavy steering wheel, moves out of lane very quickly and harder to turn to the left than to the right, also the faster you go the harder the car is to steer, very dangerous.
