Started to notice flashing amber key on dashboard. Car wouldn't start, kept locking and unlocking manually, kept using the fob to lock and unlock car then it would start. After a week of this, the car would not start and had to tow to dealership. Repairs cost total of $1012.01. Dealership acted like they had never seen this problem before so I had to pay $135.00 for diagnosis. That was a year ago to date and now the nightmare has started again. I had intended to drive this car into the ground but that's impossible as I keep encountering this steering lock problem and its a 1,000 bucks per year!!! Very disappointed will have to pay for repair and then try and sell it. Thumbs down for the Nissan Corporation. They just rip you off time after time.

This is the second time in 2 1/2 years that this problem has happened. I am fed up with Greeley Nissan, our closet dealer where our car was purchased. The key light was on two weeks ago so I changed batteries in both key fob. The light went out. Last week the light came back on. I called Nissan and asked them if it was something we should be concerned about. She told me no.

The first time this happened, it was at the parking lot of Walgreens. The car was towed to Greeley where it was repaired. Don’t remember the exact date. Needless to say here I am stranded, at least it was at home. My brother in law is a certified mechanic that had his own shop for many years. Due to retirement he closed up. I call up on him for help. He came with his scanner and these codes came up B210A. B2609. B2612 B26EF.

My husband called Greeley this morning and was treated very rude from the shop foreman. I know we purchased the extended warranty but we don’t know how it works. The guy flat told us that they could not accept another mechanics diagnosis and would have to take the car there. We live 100 miles away and if the car won’t start or run just how in the hell are we to get it to you when we already know that it is the exact same problem.

I see by doing some research that there has been a lot of problems with these cars with the same issue. What are you willing to do? You think I am going to pay 1000 dollars that we don’t have every two years because this is faulty you are crazy. Furthermore I would never buy another Nissan if I had the money to pay cash for one. Through some research there was a recall on this because of the problems so why were we not notified since ours was fixed once before.

Whoever came up with this push button start systems needs them up their ass. A very dissatisfied Nissan owner of a piece of junk. Sure isn’t the Nissan our 1997 Sentra was. It is still running like a top with way over 200,000 miles. My husbands brother drives it everyday. Will expect to hear from you since now I am stranded with no car when I was told by one of your dealers not to worry about it.

Car won't start due to steering lock malfunction. It does not recognize that the key FOB is in the car, so because of a steering problem the push button start is disabled. This problem appears to be common in many 2009 & 2010 Nissan models including the Altima and Maximas. In fact there is a Nissan Campaign (silent recall) of the Altima and Maxima, but not the Cube, go figure. I am having it towed to the dealer and am currently working to get with Nissan USA to see if they will consider paying for the repairs to fix a problem that is far too common in their vehicles.

My smart key warning light came on driving to work on Friday. I looked up the issue when I arrived at work and the manual said if the light stays solid while the car is off, it may be impossible to start the engine. That was all the information given. Sure enough, when I left work that afternoon my car was a brick. I had to have it towed to the (only) Nissan dealer in the area (20 miles away) and they couldn't look at it for another 3 days. In the meantime, I am to fork out money for a rental....and the tow truck fee. All my research online pointed to a steering lock failure. Sure enough, that was the diagnosis to the tune of a $900 fix. A $1,000+ problem when you factor in the rental and tow truck.

Turns out after further investigation, this is a common problem with my year, make, and model of car. Nissan even extended the warranty on this particular part up to 6 years, but of course my 6 years was up just a few months ago. So angry this happened!!!

My Cube is EXACTLY 72 months old (in the date range for the extended warranty from Nissan) until the extension was ended in March of 2015! Really! I am extremely disappointed with Nissan! I have always spoke highly of the cars they make and the high level of customer service standards they have until now! I cannot believe a Recall was NOT issued for this problem! The amount of complaints are unbelievable! I am a firm believer of Karma and when this SWLF issue becomes big enough to warrant a lawsuit it's going to COST them a lot more then a Recall would have!

ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) WAS MALFUNCTIONING, AS DIAGNOSED BY A NISSAN DEALER. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND IT WOULD NOT START, NO ENGINE, OR INTO ACC MODE BECAUSE THE ESCL DID NOT SENSE THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PRESSED OR THE WHEEL IN LOCKED POSITION. PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TOO START THE CAR DID NOTHING, AND ENGINE START BUTTON DID NOT WORK BUT A SOLID AMBER KEY ICON ON THE DASH BOARD WOULD COME UP AND DISAPPEAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DID SOME RESEARCH, AND IT TURNS OUT THAT NISSAN HAD PROBLEMS W 2009 SAME ESCL PART = steering lock PART# ON MY UNIT - WE HAVE PHOTOS -487001FA0B MANUFACTURE DATE 09-30-09 THE SAME AS THE ONLY CUBE MODEL YEAR RECALLED.- FROM 2009-2010 INCLUDING CUBE 2009 AND ALTIMA/MAXIMA 2010 WHICH SEEMED TO SHARE THE SAME ESCL PART USED MY CUBE 2010 WHICH IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. dEALER WANTS OVER 800.00 TOO FIX A KNOW DEFECT. THERE ARE MANY RESOURCES ONLINE (FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, WEB FORUMS) WHERE PEOPLE DRIVING MODELS OTHER THAN ALTIMA AND MAXIMA EXPERIENCE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, YET ALTIMA AND MAXIMA OWNERS GET WARRANTY EXTENSIONS AND EVERYONE ELSE GETS SADDLED WITH A $800 REPAIR BILL OR MORE. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR EVERY MODEL AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM, NOT JUST TWO MODELS AND JUST ONE MODEL YEAR WHEN THE 2010'S HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND PART . OUR CUBE HAS 47,000 MILES -

Had the same problem with my 2010 NISSAN Cube. YOU MUST complain directly to Nissan.

I called NISSAN Canada and they said there are no recalls for that part for my year / VIN.

NISSAN also told me they only consider and track complaints from registered owners they don't give a rats A** bout car complaints.com

The ONLY way to get this recalled is for EVERYONE to make sure their vehicles are registered with NISSAN and then complain about the repair and let them know that YOU KNOW there was a recall on the SAME part on the 2009 models and other NISSAN models.

I like this site for what it is, but voicing your complaint here may only make you feel better but yield little results.

However You should post here after having made your own registered owner complaint with NISSAN.

My 2010 has done this to me twice now!!! I go to get in and start it up. Nothing happens. Replaced with brand new battery and nothing happened. Had to have it towed to the dealer for inspection. Turns out the steering lock assembly malfunctioned. Nissan issued a similar recall for the same EXACT issue on all 2009 models as well as other Nissan models with same device. But not 2010 models and would not honor the recall for the faulty part.

IT IS NOW COSTING ME $700 TO REPAIR A FAULTY LOCK ASSEMBLY THAT THEY KNOW HAS MALFUNCTIONED IN OTHER MODELS AND WILL REPLACE THEIRS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
