I bought this Used 2007 Nissan Quest in the year 2012, and 2 years after, when I was driving it one day; I was braking and I felt this weird jerk, like if something was stuck together and it got unstuck. And from that time it hasn't stop doing that. I took it to the dealer and they told me that it has other problems besides the transmission. And to fix it, it's more than what my Nissan Quest is worth.
Transmission slips, slow to change gears from park or reverse to drive, slips while driving, jerky. Concerned that vehicle is not reliable enough to take on road trips. Fear costly transmission replacement.
The van jerks when I try to accelerate from a low gear. The RPMs rev really high and then the van jerks into gear. It is now having trouble accelerating all together. It is getting to the point where it is not driveable. I have kids and I can't have a vehicle that is not safe for them. I called Nissan consumer affairs and was informed there are no recalls or problems with my model.
This jerking of the transmission between gears, especially between 1, 2 & 3. Happens EVERY day! Every time I drive this car, there is a jerking & slipping between gears. One day I feel like the engine is just going to freeze up and I'm just going to have to leave it at the side of the road. We have brought it to the mechanic several times and they always say there is nothing wrong.....It happens constantly, though, just not when they test drive it. My children comment on it all the time.

This issue started about a year ago, when driving it starts jerking and seems like it's slamming into gear. Makes a really god awful sound. Transmission is leaking as is the coolant. New radiator has been put in and yet we still smell coolant, can't find from where. We've been going through jugs of trans fluid and when we take the car for repairs, they can't seem to replicate it. Had new motor mounts put in, suspension has been replaced and in the last 8 months, we've put over 3000.00 into to, and it's STILL not running right, Nissan apparently knows about it, we went car looking and they've told me I'll get almost nothing for the car, he said "Nissan is aware of the issues with the transmission". Really, how about fix it then.
While driving with my children in the nissan quest, without warning or any signs of trouble, the van suddenly lost all power at 65pmh which caused a danger of crash with vehicles making sharp fast divergence moves to avoid hitting us. Was barely able to limp the van to shoulder on a very dangerous blind curve in the road. Was finally able to get restarted at which time the van would only travel full power at 45 mpr on the open highway no ther roads were available to take. So had to drive the van with children at 45 mph with barely any shoulder available to drive on. Did not have a phone. Thought vehicle was trustworthy considering we have had it serviced by the book and considered it still a safe ride for our children.
After catastrophic failure, the van is now drivable however it will jerk and sputter after taking foot off of accelerator and then trying to accelerate again. This is very annoying and for someone with children very concerning.
Well, this problem manifests itself when the car is traveling at around 20 mph. This is about second gear at times the transmission will not engage and the rpm goes up and when it does engage you feel this awful jerk. Also, when decelerating at around 20 mph you will feel the transmission changing into the lower gear. I drive people around and this is not good for business.
One mechanic said that all I need to do is to change the transmission fluid. This costs at minimum around $200 dollars and may not fix the problem. I got some cheap transmission fluid and some other stuff that was a bit thicker and it seemed like it helped a little bit but the problem has returned. So, that does not appear to be the solution and I don't want to give away $200.
At first I though I was the only one with the problem till I got on my computer and realize there were thousands of owners with the same problem. Stopped by a few transmission shops and was told the fix runs between $2000 to $3500. I'm surprise there isn't a class action against Nissan by now. I guess Nissan is waiting for all the bad cars to be in the junk yard before they own up to their poor manufacturing. By the way I'm told by some transmission shop that Nissan is the only source for the parts and there is no third party manufacture.
Spent plenty of money diagnosing the problem or trying other fixes. These tasks were even completed through a Nissan dealership. After the fact, I found out that it is a common problem in Nissan vehicles around this time frame. An issue that they are well aware of. It is caused by the transmission valve body being made of aluminum. The pistons wear it out and cause the transmission issue.
I had my alternator replaced 3 times in (1) week due to bad parts. After finally getting a good part in my car and taking off lot at mechanic I had noticed some tension when in reverse. I can put the gear in reverse but I really have to step on gas pedal to get the damn car to move. Two different mechanics performed diagnostic test with no issues arising. Now my transmission won't transition from 2nd gear, RPM's jump up and down erratically. Awful jerking. I am a single mother of 4 children and I depend on this car to get us around. I bought this car exactly 1 year ago and shouldn't have any problems. I owe less than what it is going to cost to fix this van ($10,000). Nissan really needs to own up to their shotty work and fix these issues. This issue put not only me but my children and other drivers at risk when on the road. I disconcerting to know that Nissan would put consumer lives' at risk for money. SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!
Car is very dangerous to drive and you don't know when the slipping transmission will occur. My daughter drives the van and she is very fearful that something will happen while driving her three kids to school. She at this time doesn't have the money to take to the shop to be repaired. The van is unable to go out of town to her daughters doctor appointments or activities. It's a shame that Nissan won't take this problem as serious as they should. Will not buy a Nissan again and will tell everyone I know about there not taking care of one of their safety issues and risking loss of life. If the transmission fails at the wrong time, it could happen!
My wife and kids drive this van all the time and she's complaining feels like someone hits all the time from the back, so scary. Just a year ago Nissan fixed engine light on, and I spent $5,000, now again came up new, so tired about Nissan.
Previous problem of car jerking/bumping when accelerating and slowing still was not fixed with repairing front engine mounts. Upon taking the car into Nissan for the recall of my fuel tank, they told me the problem was now my rear engine mounts. They wanted to again charge a huge amount to fix and so again I took it to my local mechanic. I again paid 1030 to repair the rear mounts. After driving off the lot, the jerking and bumping reappeared and my check engine light suddenly came on. Problem is still not fixed.
Dealer told me problem was my front engine mounts were broken. They said the movement of things not being secure were causing the car to bump or jerk when slowing and accelerating. They were going to charge close to $3000 to fix. I took it to my local mechanic. They got the replacement parts from Nissan and I paid $1030. The problem still persisted.
Transmission started to go out and started to jerk, viewed videos and got opinions from people with same car same problem. They said that it was the transmission solenoids and once replaced that would cure the problem. I replaced all 3. It worked for 3 months great, then today it jerked really bad and now there is no acceleration and it takes 5 min to get up to 30mph. Have to drive in low to get to high enough mph then shift to drive and it jerks, but at least then I can drive and not have people yelling at me to get my ass moving. I also just replaced the timing chain and chain guides and water pump because Nissan failed with all their 3.5 motors and put cheap breakable guides in the motor. Now that works great have to find 3000 dollars to get this fixed!
Have a 2007 Nissan Quest which is junk. Many problems from brakes wearing out quickly, electric problems, door locks, engine mounts breaking, and now transmission problems. Had the engine mounts fixed but the car is still slipping when changing gears engine revs very bad when trying to change gears and then jerks very bad, when placed in reverse it sounds as if the engine is going to fall out. Between all these problems and not to mention the wear on tires I could have purchased a nice used car that works. NEVER again will I purchase a Nissan and I will make it my life mission to tell everyone else what crap these cars are.
