Rogue Select S 2.5

  • CVT transmission
  • 101,550 miles

We purchased this 2015 Rogue Select used with 41k miles on it, a few months after owning it the transmission went into fail safe mode after driving it for a long distance. I made an appointment with a Nissan dealership, after testing it they said nothing was wrong with it, so I had it serviced thinking that may help.

Several months later at approximately 70k miles it happened again, so I made an appointment with Nissan. This time they said the transmission fluid is overheating, so they installed an additional transmission fluid cooler under the extended warranty. At 98k miles while we were on vacation is happened again, we were able to continue on vacation after letting the vehicle cool down for about 20 minutes.

While on vacation I called and made an appointment with the same Nissan dealership in Macon, Georgia and when we got back from vacation I took the car in. This time I was told that the transmission was fine, but the catalytic converter was clogged causing over heating, but the engine temp gauge never went above the 1/2 way mark.

Our extended warranty expired at 100k miles, now at 101,600 miles it happened again. I took it to the same Nissan dealership and after testing it, I was told that the transmission needs to be replaced. I am beyond PISSED OFF! It is very convenient that at 1600 miles out of the extended warranty the dealership recommends replacing the transmission. I was quoted $4000 to replace the transmission.

I will call the service manager on Monday to discuss whether Nissan is going to replace the transmission under warranty. Nissan has the worst CVT transmissions, RUN FROM NISSAN!!!!!!

Rogue Select SK 4 cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 100 miles

This is apparently not a new problem. Intermittently when the care is at idle (stop light, etc) or "coasting" & you then want to accelerate, the accelerator pedal does nothing - no response - press harder - nothing, press harder & then suddenly you charge ahead as if you were already at 4000 rpm. This is dangerous. Dealer has mpt codes & cannot replicate. Says not familiar with problem??? From what I can see on the internet it is not new & widespread. Best I can guess is it is a CVT problem - acts as if the belt foes not return to idle position???, but then the accelerator should at least rev the engine - unless there is an inter connect to the CVT? From all I have seen on the net, its a common problem & generally connected to the CVT.
