CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

I have a Nissan Versa which is rated at forty miles per gallon which is impossible. I would say that over ninety-five percent of the time and more I am lucky if I get thirty miles per gallon. My last fill up was about twenty seven miles per gallon. My vehicle was in the shop for over two weeks and they put over two hundred miles on my car and they said they got thirty-four miles per gallon on one test ride. From what I understood they had at least three fill up.

Versa SL 1.6L

  • CVT transmission
  • 3,542 miles

The sales brochure says 4.8km highway and 6.1 km city, it also says rating of 854km per tank. This car has a 41 liter tank and if I take 4.8 + 6.1 average is 5.45.. so if we divide 41 divide by 5.45=7.52or 752km If you take 41 divide by 4.8 gives you 8.54 which is what is in there spec...854km

Here is my situation, I drive about 70% highway never surpassing 100K, and 30% city, and am averaging max 400-425km on a full tank which is half the rated fuel economy. I have even tried driving highway at 90km/hr. I was told winter plays a factor and yes I understand if I leave the car on a few minutes due to weather for a couple of days my mileage drops to 350km on a tank?

I recently had car tested at Nissan and they said it's normal to get 7.1L per 100K? What just happened to advertizing rate? Really pissed off. I bought this car on fuel consumption and to get half the mileage tells me something is totally wrong here, It is recommended to break in between 6-10K of which I'm there,

Am I the only one seeing this problem?? Considering class action on this one... Even at 7.1L, which is marked on dash, I should be getting 577km per tank. I also noticed when I fill up car it says your total mileage remaining is 545km to empty? What happened to the 854 they claim in sales magazine?

Doesn't make sense to me!!!
