CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Transmission struggles changing gear and downshifting. Was sent a letter from Nissan telling me that they have extended the warranty to 120,000 miles on the drive train but when taken to dealership to get it repaired they show that the warranty only goes to 60,000 miles on the transmission. If anyone is aware of any class action law suits on the Versa transmissions please reply with details on the law firm handling this.

Took my car to Nissan dealer in Joliet, IL it was not covered under my lifetime warranty because I had 2 oil changed serviced without prior authorization. I bought my car brand new DEC 2013. Having a CVT transmission is the worst it's not even 5 years old. I still have a small balance. It does not properly shift gears, when I stop at stop light it briefly stalls and makes jerking move and proceeds. Not at all happy with this vehicle the rpm is on contact 3 and 4 and pick up speed is horrible.

I have a 2014 Nissan Versa. I bought my car in 2015 at a 36.000 miles. I had an extended warranty. Sometime in July of 2018 my car started jerking. It scared me!!! I had it checked out by a local mechanic. They said it was the neutral, reverse, drive switch sensor. They replaced it with the cost of $200.00 and I thought they fixed the problem. After two days, the same problem occurred again with the jerking of the car.

I decided to take my car to Nissan dealers. Date was 8/2018. I Paid for a diagnostic of $134.00. Find out that my CVT needs to be replaced. Total cost is $4429.15, money I don't have. I took this matter to the Consumer Affairs. It took a week for them to get back to me. Consumer Affairs will only assist in paying 70% because I'm out of warranty. My warranty expired at 66,000 miles.

I now have about 88,000 miles on my car. I still feel that they should pay 100% being that my car still has low miles on it. It's way to soon for my transmission to go out. I'm so Frustrated!!! It's such an inconvenience for me not having a car to go to work!! I don't know what else to do!!!

The car revs really high before it switches to the next gear, usually between the 3rd and 4th gear. You have to let your foot off of the gas to get it to change to the next gear. This problem started to happen about 5 months ago and seems to be getting worse, I can't tell if its just when it is cold or its been driving for a while.

I change the transmission fluid in my car, and a week later it starts having serious problems. Dealership tells me it needs a new transmission. No vehicle under 100,000 miles should need a new transmission. But it's past warranty and no recalls or campaigns, so Nissan wont help. I'm a broke college kid that needed the car to work, and with the cost of the transmission replacement I now owe more on the car than when I bought it. Nissan may have single handedly crippled my financial future, and that of my wife (just got married 4 months ago.)

I purchased Nissan Versa 2014 vehicle thinking it would be a long lasting reliable car. While I researched, I found this website with people having the same problems as I with this Model. I started having acceleration problems . Also, replaced transmission fluid thinking it will resolve problem. To my surprise, my engine light went on after 2 months that I replace transmission fluid. I took it to a local transmission shop said estimated cost is like $3,000 if I'm lucky. He suggested, not worth putting money into it , to get a trade it or get another vehicle. He said there is problems with the CVT transmission. DON'T GET A CAR WITH CVT TRANSMISSION! this is the worst feeling, this shouldn't be happening this early.

Similar to #15 Versa's situation. 2014 Nissan Versa, purchased new in 2014. Tran fluid changed at 70,000. was told only the dealer can work on the tran and they don't check tran fluid with oil changes anymore, it is a separate charge of $200. Told to change tran fluids at 60,000, 90,000, and 12,000 miles.

In 2016, tran crapped out. $ 500+ repair.

Versa has 82,000 miles now. Today, Feb 2018, I took it in to the dealer for a high revving engine and low engine power with acceleration.

Today was told $1,800+ repair tran valves and tran control panel plus labor.

So I was on my way to work and as I got off the freeway the car did not want to go. I had to push it off, get it towed from San Diego to riverside county, cost a arm and leg and to top it off there was no warning at all, no check engine light or anything until it stopped moving. I got I replaced cost me $3,000 and now it's making a grinding sounds. don't have no problems with power just when I drive it's sounds like something is grinding I'm already over this car wish I would have known about it before my wife and mother in law went on there own and decided to get a car

Versa SV 1.6L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

I was on the highway when the car almost caused an accident. Luckily I was able to get off to the shoulder. I believe we would have been killed. The transmission started jerking and the accelerator stop working. I felt like the car was falling apart. I took the car to the dealership and was charged $67.00 to drive it and test it. The guy said he did not notice anything on it, but the truth is that there's no way he could not notice the problem. He said not under warranty and the car has no engine light.

So because the car is not registering a code, there is nothing wrong. Help what can I do?

Versa

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9 miles

I purchased a 2014 Nissan Versa from Maita Nissan in Sacramento and I'm just not satisfied. This car does not at all sound like a new car. I drove it off the lot with 9 miles on it, but immediately noticed how difficult it is for the transmission to smoothly get into gear. It's loud and almost sounds like it's completely broken. When I put the car in reverse I hear a loud clunking sound whether it's on a flat surface or in the driveway.

I've discussed hearing this sound before and I'm being told nothing is wrong. I need it fixed because I won't let it go until I'm satisfied. I didn't purchase a "brand new" car to have all of these problems.
