CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012-2017 Nissan Versa has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data from the earlier model years in this 2nd generation Nissan Versa.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Versa owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

12/5/2018 I replaced the transmission on the Nissan Versa 2015 at 37,000 miles. 2 months at 42,000 miles later car making noise not knowing what it is, after many car checks with auto mechanics. On September 2019 at 93,000 miles I received a post card about a class action lawsuit filed by Nissan owners against 2013-2017 Nissan Versa and Sentra cars ''cvt' transmissions not properly working to not working at all. I finally had the car checked and the Nissan only mechanic said my 2015 Nissan Versa is not safe to drive due to the transmission not working properly and it needs to be replaced for a third time at mossy Nissan houston, tx. Its extremely not fair. Nissan manufacture fail to provide 100% of repair cost and refuse to take full responsibility of the pain and suffering their terrible car transmission cause me. Many people and transmission repair shops knows Nissan transmissions are not good. You can replace a Nissan transmission today and the same year or next year you have to replace the transmission again. Its extremely not fair what Nissan manufacturer & dealership did. II replaced the first transmission at 37,000 miles in year 2 of owning my car, at 42,000 or 50,000 miles the transmission starts going bad. And year 3 at 93,000 I have to replaced again. That is a major highway safety hazard. The reason I did not have a major accident with this car I strongly believe, is because I prayed everyday when I start driving for jehovah god to protect me, not to have an accident, and not to kill anyone with this car. So every 30,000 miles or every year you have to replace the transmission on a Nissan Versa depending how much you drive for the year.. I had to deal with extreme stress been in the hospital 3 times. Please make money greedy Nissan pay for their deliberate fraud act. I don't drive the car because its unsafe to drive with a very bad transmission.

The ABS light and the traction control light continuously illuminate but go on and off during car rides. The car is also making a strange rattling noise under the hood because the idler pulley system is failing. This nose persists while the car is stationary, in motion, and turning on any road condition. The car also is having a jerking motion when trying to accelerate and is slow to pick up speed. The car is hesitating when picking up speed.

When driving the car at highway speeds 65mph and over the car shifts right and left as if wind is blowing the car on both sides. The car is brand new and was purchased with 10 miles on the odometer in may of 2015. The dealership acknowledged this problem and Nissan was contacted by me at the request of the dealership. Nissan has informed me that the problems is a normal condition for this model and therefore no fix or solution is available. The main concern is that when driving at over 65 miles per hour you have to fight the steering to compensate for the shifting. The service manager at sparks/Nissan in monroe Louisiana states that the model is a normal situation. If this is true then why has the sales staff not informed the customers that a situation could exist? the car should be deemed a safety hazard at highway speeds as under normal city low speed driving the condition is not noticed. Nissan corporation 615-7257445 will do nothing, my case #2035821 complaint. I am asking for a repurchase by Nissan to the dealership in hopes of buying a car deemed to be safe. The problem was noticed on a long trip from Louisiana to Florida and back in September.
