CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005-2007 Xterra appears to have a widespread defect where coolant leaks into the transmission, causing transmission failure around 90,000 miles. Repair costs are typically upwards of $3,500.

The same defect exists in the Pathfinder & Frontier as well. And according to the New York Times & a class action lawsuit, the defect actually extends through 2010 model year. More info here.

Company need to recall and fix this issue.

Gas in car was at a 1/4 tank and service engine light came on went and filled tank up and gas gauge not working after driving the car twice the light went off and the gauge was working 3 days latter same issue. I do see where there was a recall for the 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 Xterra for the same issue but they failed to recall the 2007 year for the same issue. This should be recalled and fixed.

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The problem I have is with the fuel gauge sensor. It started about a year ago and the check engine light comes on and off randomly. Not to mention that when I fill up my vehicle the fuel gauge will not sense that its full. It will take a long time or even bottom out showing the light that its empty. I feel that this is very unusual and hard to tell what is wrong with the vehicle. I have been told that it has happen to many other Nissan vehicles.

I have a 2007 Xterra with 42K. I filled it at the gas station and noticed right after leaving the station that the gauge still said a quarter of a tank. So I pulled over and turn off the engine and then restarted it the service engine soon light was on. As I were driving down the road the gauge slowly started rising to the full mark. My car didn't pass state registration with the ses on.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated that the fuel gauge was broken. The check engine light remained illuminated continuously and when the fuel tank was full it would register different levels. The vehicle shut off because there was no gasoline in the fuel tank on occasion. Nissan was contacted and stated that there was a recall for model year 2005 and 2008, but not the 2007 and the repairs would be at his expense. The dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 80,000. The mileage was 90,000.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. The contact stated the fuel level indicator would read inaccurate gasoline levels when the fuel tank was less than one-fourth full. In addition, the indicator would intermittently become stuck on empty. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 50,100.
