I had this problem from the second I bought my 2000 alero. You have to replace the hazard switch. They unfortunately made it so the hazard switch little red light is on in your car all the time, instead of when it's dark automatically coming on like the rest of your inside lights. And the wires for your turn signals are in the switch also, so it burns everything out. I got one for $12 at napa autoparts. Just call beforehand, because 1 location was out, the other only had 1. My boyfriend fixed it for me by finding a step by step online, just googled it. You have to take your dash out, but the actual switch just plugs in no need for cutting wires or soldering. And I haven't had the problem since. It was a recall, but I just missed it by 1 year, it was like 10 years or 100,000 miles something like that. But it was only 12 dollars so probably wouldn't have been worth the hassle of getting my money back anyways.

Had my car since 2004 everything was fine other than both my power windows dieing on me in the first year until some time in the summer of 2007 when my blinkers would suddenly stop working. When this happens my hazards also do not work. I'm a person who always uses my blinkers and it scares me when this happens because I'm scared of getting hit or worse pulled over after a night at the bar. They go off and come on whenever they feel like it. Just recently they starting sticking on and buzzing instead of just not working. I was releived to see others share my pain. Will be checking on this potential recall before I run out of time. I will update after a fix has been established.

This to me is a serious problem... I have found that this car had a safety recall for the sortering making the hazard lights, and the turn signals not function properly... The only quick fix is to keep pushing the hazard button on the dash until that annoying noise goes off, and the lights start to work... I wish I knew how to fix this problem myself... This car has other safety recalls also... The O ring on the fuel pump or something was missing on some... Also in the event of a crash the console flies open releasing objects into the car... I can't wait to either fix mine or trade it...

I've started to have blinker issues with my car since February. Whenever I would go to engage my blinkers, it wouldn't blink, and the first time that happened it was during a REALLY bad rain storm. I don't think I need to say how mad I was when I couldn't pull over to the side of the street. Since then, it was an intermittent problem, as if the blinkers would come on and off by themselves (if they felt like it) when I engaged them.

I drove like this for about 3 months, making the blinkers work by messing with the hazard switch until the blinkers started up. Then one day, the switch burned out and I couldn't shut off my blinkers. I took my car to the dealership and I qualified for a hazard switch replacement recall and they said that it wouldn't cost me anything. Left the car in the shop that day and picked it up in the afternoon. Imagine my surprise that the problem wasn't fixed, only lessened.

Now, I can engage my blinkers when I wish and engage my hazard lights, but now I hear a clicking noise as soon as I start the car and won't go away. It's like I have perpetual blinking that won't stop until I shut off the car. The blinking sound is actually faster then the normal one.

Click .... Click.... for turning. ClickClickClickClick.... during normal driving.

I spoke with the dealership and they told me I need a new multifunction switch, and since the years on my warranty have expired, I need to pay $350 dollars to replace it.

Current remedy is to turn up the volume on the radio.....

When I first bought the car at 54,000 miles there were no problems and then over time I noticed the blinkers would not always work or they would work and then shut off while I had them on. I called GM and they refused to pay because my VIN wasn't in the recall. I called them a year later and there had been a bulletin put out that covers the vehicles up to 10 years or 120,000 miles. If you have this problem you should check with GM because they will pay to fix it if you are within those limits.

Does anyone know if the hazard light/blinker problem recall is still valid? A co-worker of mine has a 2001 model and she said she got a letter in the mail a few years back informing her of the recall. I got no such letter, and the blinker issue started about a year ago in 2007.

The TURN SIGNAL'S NOT WORKING.... it's the hazard light switch in the dash, GM made is SH*TTY so when it gets to hot it messes up the mechanical stuff on the inside and that for whatever reason makes the turn signals work sometimes and sometimes they do, they usually don't work when a cop is behind you or when someone is tailing your ass. Anyhow, it was $223.00 to put a new one in with the part, but amazingly its the first time someone fixed a freaking problem with this car. My turn signals have worked for two weeks now, haha amazing!!!!

Geez! What can I say? Sometimes it won't work for days. Other times I completely forget it ever had a problem. But every time it quits working you can hear my muffled screams unless the right rear window is stuck in the down position again.

I BOUGHT MY CAR USED AND DURING THE TIME I'VE HAD IT I WAS ONLY HAD AWARE OF ONE OF MANY RECALLS ON MY CAR. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO SUNRISE CHEVROLET TO BE TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT THEY TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM ONLY TO GET PAID FOR DOING THE RECALL. IF THEY DID ANYTHING IT WAS A TEMPORARY FIX. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS AND WHEN I CALLED THE GM DEALERS ALL THEY COULD SAY IS THAT THEY WERE SORRY BECAUSE THE RECALL HAS BEEN CLOSED IT WOULD BE MY COST IF I WANT TO HAVE IT DONE AGAIN. BUT IF IT WASN'T DONE THE FIRST TIME WHEN THE RECALL WAS OPENED THEN IT SHOULDN'T COST ME IF THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I JUST THINK THAT THE BEST THING FOR ALL PEOPLE THAT HAD/OWN A ALERO AND HAS HAD ANY OF THE PROBLEMS THAT ARE ON THIS SITE SHOULD BE COMPENSATED FOR THERE OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES AND PAIN AND SUFFERING FOR THERE INCONVENIENCES.

Blinkers do not work most of the time. Even a mechanic couldn't figure it out. So if I replace the Hazard switch will that really work. This car has cost me TONS of $$$$. If I could drive it off a cliff I would.
