i have a 2001 olds alero that just won't start. i was told a fuel pump was needed put one in, plus a fuel filter. didn't start. i was told a module put one in didn't start. after getting a tune up and putting in crank and cam senors it still won't run. at wit end, can some one help me.

well glad im not alone as the rest of the complaints the dam thing wont start been playing around with the fuel pump, relays,different sensors, nothing !!!!!!!!! was reading this site tonight and ran across something i havent even thought of. complaint #2 mention the passkey to where you turn the key on for 10 mins. then try to start, well tried everthing else ! dont think it will work? well it did but i waited 20 mins. because i was busy typing this . well end result is it started after being dead for 2 weeks. now the ? is how do you fix the passlock system? if any one knows please reply

Same problem here where car decides not to start, stranded right now 400 miles from home working out of town. This has happened several times, replaced fuel pump the last time, and now it has happened again. Will go and try the passlock security advice you gave in the morning before I have it towed somewhere for yet another "Don't see anything wrong" from mechanic. Same problem as everyone else. Car cranks but will not start. Recently had CAM sensor replaced. Tried resetting the security system and that didn't work. Wow, I hate this car, one problem after another.

With no prior warning the engine refused to turn over. It appears to be the fuel pump. Everything else seems to be working. This is the second problem I have had with this carr (1st was a recall that did effect the operation of the car).

it runs pretty good other than that incident. I came to a stop and it just stalled. You could hear he fuel pump start but wouldn't turn over. It was the relay switch

Left stranded on the busiest commuter freeway in the city at 5pm on a Tuesday!!!! Has been a reliable car up to this point, however I see this is a common problem. Very expensive fix + tow job.

Ok, I have gotten my car out of the shop and it cost $180 to get the new fuel filter (actually $75 for towing). Of course, once it was towed to the shop it fired up like nothing was wrong. The mechanic said he tapped on the gas tank where the fuel filter is located and it fire up on the tow truck. He recommended changing the filter since I hadn't had it changed since buying the car. I am praying this resolves my car issues; if not, someone tell me how to blow the damn thing up because I am too tired of the same ole problem. Thankfully, Joey at Muffler & Brakes Master in Macon, GA was so nice and didn't try to rip me off. I recommend going there if you are in the area and need car maintenance or repair.

I've had this car for about 3 months. I purchased it used from a really good dealership. The car ran rally good for about the first two and a half months. then I started to smell gas and noticed I had a leak at the pressure regulator. Stopped at the gas station to put gas in for the next day and went home. The next morning the car would not start and have not started since. I only get a trickle of gas from the pressure valve. I can't trade it, can't afford to fix it and hate to pay for it because I can't use it. i really need some help.

I was driving to a friends house on the express way doing about 70mph when the car started struggling. I stepped on the gas and the car would make a sound that sounded like a vacuum line sucking in air but the car would not go any faster. Eventually the car just died and I pulled over to the side. I started the car again and it started but it was struggling to stay on. I put the car on drive and I pressed the gas pedal it died. I started it again and slowly pressed the gas pedal. This allowed the car to pick up speed and allowed me to get off the express way but not without the car struggling while going up the exit ramp. Once out of the express way, I was able to park it somewhere and I had it towed. This is not the first time this car craps out. Another time it left me at the post office, I had it towed and looked at. Mechanic found the problem. It was the ignition fuse. This cost was about $200 dollars just for the damn fuse. Anyway, I am getting sick of American cars. I just bought a used Honda and it works great. I had enough of GM, dodge, and other American cars.

Went to the movies with the kids on yesterday, came out of the movies and the car cranks but will not start. Have always had a hard time cranking the car, but it would start. Someone mentioned that it may be the timing belt, but after reading all of the same complaints about this car I'm thinking it maybe something else.

what is going on with this car there seems to be alot of owners with the same problem - turning over and not starting and it seems to be the security system or passlock or ignition. some say the security light was flashing mine is not. I've had the camsensor replaced and the mechanic says he cannot do anything unless a code comes up on the scanner which it does not. How do I get my car to start? I called the Oldsmobile customer service who do not recognize any of these concerns and that 53 complaints are not a big concern to them.

Car would not start - had it towed to shop thinking it needed a fuel pump. Shop notified me that fuel pump is fine and the problem was the computer in the car. For some reason, the computer program was thinking it was being stolen and shut off fuel to the car. The shop reported to me that they new someone that could try to reprogram it, but the computer might need to be replaced!!!! I found this website through Google and found you can bypass the passlock system by turning your key to on and waiting about 10 minutes, then turn off and then the car would start. I called the shop and told them to try it which they did and it worked. I picked up my car and only a charge for towing (which I can claim on my insurance), and a diagnostic charge from the electronic place. THANK YOU carcomplaints.com for saving me alot of money - they were just about ready to put a new computer in my car!!! I know this is not a permanent fix, but I wouldn't even trust a new computer in this car! I bought this car brand new and I have had numerous problems with this car (water leaks, CD player, blinkers, brakes, rotors, windows, etc.)and most likely will not buy a GM product again. I had a Honda Accord salvaged car that had a better service record than this car!!! And, it doesn't help when the GM dealership doesn't stand behind their product for you. Don't even waste your time with GM surveys - told them many times (and for what?????)

This is the worst car I have ever owned. I have endured many, many annoyances since I bought it new in 2001 -- 3 ignition switches, replaced the driver's side window motor, replaced the sensor on the right front tire, it loses antifreeze for an unknown reason, low tire pressure light randomly comes on for no valid reason, and on and on. Most recently I was returning from visiting family 700 miles away. I stopped for gas in a tiny town in Virginia and my car would not start again. After several hours and a tow truck drive 100 miles north to Roanoke, VA, it was determined to be the fuel pump. Replacing that, plus accessories (fuel injector, wire gauge) and labor cost $600. Now, 3 weeks later, it left me stranded in the grocery store parking lot. After having it towed (again... thank goodness for AAA), my Passlock system was determined to be not disabling itself. What is wrong with this car? Why is it such a piece of junk??

I bought this car last winter in Feb. By April, I was replacing the Intake Manifold gasket. This cost about $750.00. Then about 2 1/2 months later, the engine went out in the bastard. Had that replaced, that was $1600.00 The car had been running good, I have been keeping up with the oil changes and maintenance and the car still acts up!! I keep a full tank of gas in the car since about 2 weeks ago, I go out to my car to go to lunch and the damn thing won't start! Turned out to be a fuel pump relay switch! ($17.99) that my fiance and I found out after the car was towed. Then the car just stopped one day, wouldn't jump and the battery kept draining. Had the car towed to the shop so the starter could be replaced and it turned out to be the battery!!!! That was $250 by the way! I have had nothing but problems from this car, and there was a class action suit against GM, but it only involved Manifold gaskets. I missed out on that one too!! This car is a waste of time and money, no wonder GM stopped making the damn piece of sh*t!! I hate this car and I am currently shopping for a new car!!!
