Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

problem #2

May 122011

Alero GL 2.2L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 99,419 miles

Bought a 2002 Alero used without doing proper research on the car because I was starting a new job in a week and desperately needed the vehicle. Literally the second day I drove it the check engine light came on and it was the Cat. Converter. I was quoted $750 by my mechanic for parts + repair and definitely did not ave the money for the additional repair. Car still ran fine for a little bit after the light came on until it practically stopped working altogether. Car would not shift out of third gear and would just sit and rev up RPM without accelerating past about 60km/h. Finally ordered a new converter online for a little over $200 and came out to around $350 total for repair.

Alero Ecotec 2.2L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,588 miles

Car broke down while traveling home from New Orleans Christmas morning and had to be towed to a hotel. Almost resulted in the vehicle catching fire. Couldnt begin the process of getting the car fixed until the next day. Car towed to a dealer on 12/27/04 and repairs completed on 12/28/04. Stranded out of town for four days until car repairs completed. Had to fight with Oldsmobile Roadside Assistance for hotel, towing and car rental reimbursement.
