Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

Manufacturer has declared defective engine and will not repair/ replace.fficial Oldsmobile notice # 003019 sent June 2003. Why does NHTSA not force manufacture to repair/replace defective engine ? very unsafe, will cause traffic deaths.

Going about 50 mph on interstate when engine lost power. Had multiple warning lights and messages, including ABS and service brakes. Pulled off on exit ramp and stopped on grass completely off travel lane. Tried to restart engine several times with no success. Before I could take other action, I was hit in the left rear by another car, which pushed my vehicle about 50 feet back into the travel lane. Damage to rear quarter panel, bumper, and tailgate. My vehicle had to be towed to dealer. Dealer was able to start on first attempt. No problem found with engine. Only ABS code in computer.

I have had the same problem twice in this newly leased vehicle. The engine stalls with a resulting loss in braking and steering. The engine will not restart. Both incidences luckily happened at low speeds. This vehicle was intended to be for my wife. She is scared to drive the vehicle because of the safety concerns particularly if the stalling happened at high speeds on a freeway. I have requested the manufacturer to buy it back. They refuse. The dealer has had the car now for 16 days and cannot replicate the problem. I don't want to take a chance on this happening again. It is not safe particularly for my wife who is pregnant.

Incident #1: defect in wiring of engine control module caused ECM to short out while driving causing engine to stall. From talking with other owners, this is a known problem on early vehicles. Incident #2: internal component of engine disintegrated causing engine failure. Engine being replaced under warranty. GM aware of this problem with early production vehicles.

My vehicle is the second at this dealer to have this condition. Driving the vehicle like this will cause major engine component failure, per the service manager. They have already replaced the cam phaser and on a second visit, the crank shaft. The service manager told me GM has a major problem on their hands with this condition, and they have run out of ideas on how to repair it. I am trying to get the dealer to take the vehicle back and refund my money. I do not want to be GM's testing ground. A warning needs to be posted so other consumers do not make the same mistake I did.
