Approximately three weeks ago, after making a left turn, I noticed the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The problem would disappear after backing up. And was not always consistent. I brought it into my garage who checked the belts and fluid. They reported everything was fine. Yesterday (2/22) leaving work I was making a left turn out of the parking lot into the exit lane, and lost all steering ability. Another employee stopped to see if I needed help. When I told him I lost the steering again and asked if he could look. When I opened my door to get out, from his height he could see something sticking out underneath the clutch area. He reached down and saw that a chunk of the cloth mat had been sucked up into the steering column at the base of the floor and was wrapped freezing the steering. It took him a while, but he was eventually able to free it. Almost the entire, heavy cloth mat was a giant ball wrapped by the column. I was lucky that it happened on the company campus only moving a few miles an hour, and not up on interstate 78 I travel everyday at 55 miles an hour when the steering completely froze.

Brakes needed replacing 4 months after buying car. Dealer said was not under warranty. Had complete brake job on front 2 times, 1 on rear, cylinder replaced, shoes replaced, brakes still do not work properly, something comes loose if pressed suddenly causing car to slide and not stop. Pads have been replaced numerous times due to quick wear out. Accident could have been avoided if brakes worked properly. Car does not stop efficiently. Also, engine head gasket was replaced under warranty. Engine has been leaking oil again since 7/98. Dealer maintains that I will have to repair because out of warranty. Oil light does not work to warn when oil is low. Constantly adding oil to keep at proper level. Parking brake has been adjusted several times but does not stay long. Fuel gauge gives inaccurate reading. Appears to be empty when not. Air conditioner quit month before car accident in 8/99. Was repaired with collision repairs. Repairs reveal prior accident before buying car. Was not notified of this. Have spent too much money on this car in two years for car to be as new as it is. There are other defects that will be reported on an additional form.

Low oil pressure indicator failure. Suggests factory defects and/or design deficiencies. Slow oil loss from small hole in oil pan over period of at least 6 days failed to activate warnings prior to engine seize up. Est 3/4 qt oil remaining after engine seized but warn lite did not come on until engine stopped. Veh was in busy traffic when engine unexpectly and abruptly stopped and would not restart. Oil pan failure resulted from scraping contact over time with road surfaces on dips due to pan design and lowness of veh the pan has a lowerd detent just before drain plug which appears to be first point of impact when dips are encountered. Repeated contacts did not damage overall pan but left unprotected the detent which scraped or wore thru metal and allowed oil leakage. Oil pan should be strenghtened or protected at that point to preclude reoccurrance. This failure in concert with oil warning lite failure causing vehicle abrupt stoppages in traffic could result in serious accidents with accompaning P
