I was told by a person following me that my brake lights we always illuminated, then when I actually applied brake pedal the lights went out. Also, to start cruise control I must tap my brake before it will engage. Then, after it is engaged, it will turn off by itself within 15-30 seconds.

When the car is at a speed of approximately 40mph and the brakes are pressed the steering wheel shakes. The steering wheel is also making a clicking noise when it's turned from left to right. Also I noticed that the brake lights are staying on when I'm driving the car and then shuts off after the brakes are applied (for example at a traffic light) the brake lights are then back on again after driving off. In addition I have contacted the service part of GM regarding the remote start which was installed before I bought the car. The remote start has had problems since purchase and I have gone back numerous times for them to fix it, to no avail. The car starts, then shuts off. After the key is applied to start the car, which it does, when the brakes are applied there is a grinding noise to put the car into gear. If the car is started without the remote start the grinding noise is not there when the car is put into gear.

Brake lights come on for no reason and when pedal is pressed the lights go off.. this is very dangerous and have almost caused 2 accidents in one trip home from work. I have brought car to sts and they replaced the brake pedal position sensor and it still did not correct issue. I see many other owners are dealing with the same issue, and believe this to be a major concern for all.

My brake lights will constantly stay on. I am also having problems where my cruise control will not work. I see this is a big problem and there is a recall on the Pontiac G6's for this time frame but my car is not on there. Is there a way I can get it fixed under the recall?

My 2007 Pontiac G6 brake lights are illuminating when the brake is not depressed. It is hard to also move the gear shifter from park at times. Also, at the same time my brakes lights stopped working properly my cruise control stopped operating. I feel the brake lights working in the opposite manner is a major safety issue which can lead others drivers to also not be safe.

While driving home with my brother following me in a separate car, he told me that the brake lights on my car were on the whole time, only turning off when I applied the brakes (briefly) before turning back on. I have noticed this when I start the car via remote (the brake lights and chmsl are on) and in reflections as I drive... if I apply the brakes hard, the lights will go off briefly, but come back on as I drive. I do not drive with one foot on the brake pedal, and this has been a constant problem I have been noticing. There have not been any incidents with other vehicles (I'm assuming they're keeping far away because my brake lights are on), and I am aware of the NHTSA investigation into the Chevrolet Malibu from that year for the same issue. My car is a 2007 Pontiac G6 GT convertible. As well, the stability control (the GT convertibles were equipped with it) intermittently comes on with an error message... the dealer has used a scanner to check the problem, but nothing has registered in the computer history.

It is often very hard to shift the car into gear. Sometimes pressing the brake very hard with 2 feet will allow it to shift, other times we have to shut the engine off and on and then press the brake pedal very hard and it will shift. Now the brake lights are not working correctly. They stay on when the brake is not depressed. They sometimes go off when the brake is depressed. This car belongs to my teen daughter. This is a major safety issue.

While driving my brake lights stay on without the brake peddle being pressed when brake peddle pressed brake lights go off. I was almost rear ended at the a traffic light. Also have been warned several times by motorist. Please help before someone is badly injured. This problem seams to be very numerous among Pontiac G6 owners.

Brake lights stay on without pressure being applied to the brake pedal. Brake lights go off when brake pedal is depressed. Brake light malfunction causes the cruise control system to work erratically.

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac G6. The contact stated that the brake lights illuminated independently without having engaged the brakes and when the contact had engaged the brakes, the light would not illuminate. The failure also affected the cruise control and would cause it to independently disengage. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the electrical issue caused the transmission solenoid to become defective and as a result, it would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 80,070. Updated 10/17/13

When the 2007 Pontiac G6 is in drive the brake lights are indicated bright as if the brake pedal is being pressed. When the pedal is not pressed the brake lights are illuminated as if the pedal is being pressed. When the pedal is pressed to apply the brakes the brake lights go from bright to off indicating the brakes are not being applied when, in fact, they are.

I was getting into my car to drive home and when I put the key into the ignition and turned the car on, I noticed that my rear brake lights were on. I got out of the car to double check if they were really on or not. I then got back into the car and I pressed the brake pedal and the lights turned off. Ever since then, the car goes back and forth with this problem. When I am driving, the lights will come on as I accelerate and then when I press on the brake pedal the lights will come off.

Advised by a fellow motorist that I was "riding my brakes" around the end of 2010 while driving on interstate 77 through very hilly terrain. Not understanding what he meant as I was clearly not riding my brakes in the normal sense but maybe had tapped them once or twice to slow down going down hill, I dismissed this and figured he was angry. End of 2011/early 2012 advised by a friend that my brake lights were always on while she followed me and we spoke on the phone. I discovered through this conversation that they would go off when I actually pressed the brake. Took this to a certified GM mechanic who could not find anything wrong with the brakes. After some research, I advised them of the service bulletin which had been issued for the 2006 model year of my vehicle that indicated this same problem and showed a fix for it. They fixed it according to that bulletin and it seemed to work at the time. July 2013, discovered while driving at night on a side road (could see the street signs illuminate behind me as I passed them) that once again the brake lights were working in reverse, they were on when I was driving and would go off when I brake. Took it back to the same GM mechanic who had temporarily fixed it the first time. They replaced the brake pedal position sensor as they found that to be reading incorrectly at times and released the car back to me advising that it was working at that time. The day after I took it to the mechanic, I had a friend followed me to confirm that it was fixed. I was advised by my friend while again talking on the phone to him that this did not fix the issue as I would tell him when I was braking and he would tell me what he saw. I am currently still driving with my brakes working in reverse. Taking it back to the same GM mechanic to see if they can fix this for good.

When the car is in park, the brake light will automatically come on after about 3-5 seconds without pressing the pedal. While driving, the brake lights will stay on until application of the brakes. The brake lights will then turn off when the brakes are pressed. On multiple occurrences, I have had other drivers flag me down while on the road to tell me about the problem. This issue is especially dangerous at night since the driver behind you will have no indication you are slowing down since pressing the brake turns off the brake lights. This issue has been going on for over 2 years now and is becoming unsafe to drive. I am constantly worried driving at nights because the risk for being rear ended is very high. I have seen many others having the same issue and request the NHTSA recall this issue before someone gets seriously injured or killed. Also, the car gets stuck in park after starting the car. The only way to get the car out of park is to repeatedly press the brake to unlock.
