During inspection of the front suspension, noticed that the front tires were rubbing against a metal plate on the front struts. This caused the paint on the strub to wear and the rubber tire will eventually be damaged by constantly rubbing against steel.

I discovered severe inside tire damage at only 17,000 miles. Research found that many other 2005 Pontiac GTO's are suffering from similar damage due to the front tires rubbing on the struts. I took the car to my local dealer, and he refused to do any aside from selling me two new tires and an alignment.

-the contact owns a 2005 Pontiac GTO. He received a NHTSA report via email stating that there is an open investigation for the following components: Suspension, suspension:front suspension:front:macpherson strut, tires, tires:sidewall. The NHTSA action number is PE07010. The contact's vehicle demonstrated the same failures. The front passenger and driver tires are rubbing against the struts; the steel belts are showing, and the tires are shredding because of it. The tire brand is bf goodrich, dot be8R3U113304, tire size, 17/245. The original tires were replaced due to the related failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 for the original set tires, and 44,000 for the second set of tires. The current mileage on the vehicle is 48,000. The second set of tires is also making contact with the struts and need to be replaced. The contact does not feel the vehicle is safe to drive due to the tire failure. The dealer and the manufacturer stated that they were not aware of the failure or the investigation. The contact wants the struts to be repaired. Update 4/9 *

Front tires are rubbing against the inside strut. Took the car to the local dealer and they said nothing was wrong with the car. It was just out of alignment. They billed me for an alignment and I replaced the tires with new tires. Just over 18K miles. Middle and outside of tire was just fine, plenty of tread left. Inside had a groove cut into the tire and had cut the tire down to the belt.

The front tires of my 2005 Pontiac GTO was rubbing against the struts. Both front tires were showing the metal tread. I took it to the dealership (beck and masten Pontiac, houston, Texas) and they said that the tires needed an alignment. I had 19000 miles on my car and my front tires were virtually about to blow because it needed an alignment. I had to pay for both front tires and an alignment. Please do a recall for this known issue.
