I have had constant electrical problems in my vehicle. It started with the turn signals working intermittently, then my power windows would work intermittently, then my sunroof would do so as well. I have had the switch replaced for my turn signals, and they have worked fine since. I had the motor replaced for my sunroof, and it has also worked fine. However, the power windows still work intermittently, and the motor has been replaced 3 times. Gee, maybe it isn't the motor"!?!"! I have also had brake rotor wear problems, which almost caused an accident. Dealer said rotors looked as if I had been storing my vehicle for years they were so rusted. I urge anyone considering the purchase of a Pontiac to re-think their decision.

A warping of the front rotors may cause the brakes to vibrate during breaking and cause the ABS system failure indicator to go on. Driver side door window: Cable for the power window will bind up behind the pulley and make the window inoperational. In some cases the cable pulled off the pulley and caused the window to drop and smash into pieces.

Rotors warped after 11000 miles. Took the car to the dealer. Resurfaced rotors and replaced pads. Got a lecture about my driving problems. Noticed a problem at 20000 miles rotor vibration when braking. Took it to an independent repair place at 240000 miles and had the rotor resurfaced again. Car has 30000 miles on it now and has the same problem.

I have had my front rotors replaced after only 9 months (completely rusted) and they still grind and rust from the warped hubs. A relative of mine who is a certified GM mechanic said both the Grand Am & Alero both have the warping problem with the hub & rotors and GM is aware of it but will not issue a recall or notice of defect. Without replacement excessive rusting will cause issues with your breaks and possibly complete damage to the hub.

I own a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT. At about 15,000 miles my blinkers starting either just comming on by theirself or would not work at all. I took it in to the dealer and they replaced the hazard switch. Then, about 6 thousand miles later, my front end started shaking and making noise. I took it to the dealer and they said my brakes were down to the rotor and I would need new brakes and rotors. I asked if it would be covered under warranty, and they said the warranty only covered the brakes until 20,000 miles and it would cost me $500 to fix the problem. I took the car to my mechanic and had performace brakes and rotors put on my car for $375 (I had read a few reports of others having problems and having to go back to the dealer every 5-6 thousand miles and did not want to go through that, and concider myself luchy that they lasted as long as they did.). I have put another 15,000 miles on my performace brakes and rotors with no problems. My mechanic also saw that I had a plug in my right front tire. I have never had to take my car in for a flat since I have owned the vehicle, so my guess is that the dealer put the plug in the tire. I have been reading similar complaints from people that own 2001, 2002, and even 2003 Grand Am. Apparently they are using cheap parts on a "performace car" and are ignoring the problem and something need to be done, before someones brakes go out completely. There is also a problem with the passengers front seat not locking in place. If you do not push the seat back all the way fairly hard and check the seat lever to make sure that it came back up, the seat will slide all the way fwd during even light breaking. The seat has done this since I have owned the car. If they used better components on their car and would stop cutting corners they would not be having theses problems.

I have been to the dealer multiple times because of problems with the rotors. They rust very quickly. I park my car in the driveway at night and the next morning, the rotors can be covered in rust. This causes a large amount of noise when braking. The dealer has turned the rotors multiple times. They even replaced the rotors once. Unfortunately, they replace the rotors with the same defective piece of equipment and they continue to rust. I have done plenty of research and there are numerous complaints from Pontiac Grand Am owners, but GM claims that there is no problem.

Pontiac has been contacted regarding this. The dealer which sold me the vehicle and my current dealer that is servicing the vehicle has replaced the brakes and rotors several times beyond a normal range of needing replacement. Under warranty, however, Pontiac refused to pay for this after the warranty expires, even though they are fully aware of a problem with the 2000 Pontiac Grand Am braking system. Their answer is, it is a design problem and have no fix for this! they refuse to reimburse any costs for this once the warranty expires, but advised me to hold onto my receipts "in case" Pontiac decides to do thins in the future. The brake pads have been replaced, rotors have been resurfaced and replaced approximately every 3000-6000 miles, which is not normal! any help on this is greatly appreciated! ph **dimsii IVOQ entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768319

My car has been in the shop repeatedly for the brakes grinding and shaking when I brake. The rotors have been replaced twice for rusting and warping and the brakes once, under warranty. I have had water leaks, my dash has been replaced for warping, 2 door panels have been replaced for warping. I have 2 more that need to be replaced, but the dealership says "it's a common problem, but it's not covered under the extended warranty". I have lots of wind noise. A rotten egg smell in my car when driving it. I took my car to the dealer last week and they replaced a gasket/seal for a intake gasket leak. I went to pick up my car and it reeked of gasoline. They kept it another day and had to replace my fuel regulator. Now I cannot keep my windows closed because there is a odor of gas in my car, which causes my eyes to burn and water and my throat to burn. My hazards/blinkers have gone out once already. Two other times I had it in the shop for a clicking noise in my dash area and it was something with my hazards that had to be replaced. My passenger seat would not adjust, they say they fixed it? the transmission slips on occasion and that has been since I took possession of the lemon. My horn quit working and was finally fixed after repeatedly taking it into the dealer. It is hesitant to start at times and when it finally starts the front end shakes, like the motor mounts are bad.

I have a 2000 Grand Am and the rotors were replaced 10000 miles ago and now need to be replaced again. I have seen all the complaints and I am not the only Grand Am owner with this issue. The dealer said it was not under warranty before and not under warranty now, so I had to pay. I can not afford to replace the rotors every 10000 miles. I believe this is a defect in the design of these rotors. Never had any other car do this. Dealer said my problem. Will never buy another Pontiac.

Pontiac Grand Am year 2000 was brought to dealer for grinding and front end vibration at 9000 miles,21000 and recently at 28515 the first time rotors and brakes replaced at no charge, the second time resurfaced rotors and brakes were also no charge, still under warranty the brakes are know considered a wear item and I was charged $321. For brakes which are obviously defective along with rotors that warp.

My 2000 Pontiac Grand Am has had the front rotors & pads replaced approximately 6 times - there's no point of keeping track anymore. I have argued with 2 dealers on many occasions that cars just don't shake like that from the brakes every 10,000 miles. They told me it was driver error and they had not heard of any complaints before. They put these new "shim kits" on my front rotors so that they don't wear down -didn't help. Trust me - lemon law doesn't help. My husband eventually went to advanced auto and bought rotors & pads for $80 and I haven't had a problem since. It's a shame my husband had to put crappy brakes on the car for it to stop shaking constantly. Keep that in mind before you go to the dealer.
