Over the past year the Passlock has engaged 4 times, once when the temp was extremely cold and the other after work & I was the last one to leave. I emailed Pontiac Customer Assistance Center and they recommend having the vehicle taken to a dealership to check the issue and here was their suggestion.

Thank you for contacting Pontiac Customer Assistance Center. We appreciate you taking the time to write us about the issue on the Passlock of your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

Passlock is a passive theft-deterrent system. Passlock enables fuel if the ignition lock cylinder has not been tampered with. During normal operation, the SECURITY light will go off approximately five seconds after the ignition key is turned to ON and the engine is started. If the SECURITY light flashes with the key in ON, wait 10 minutes until the light goes off. Then turn the ignition to OFF before attempting to start the engine. If the SECURITY light stays on with the key in ON, turn the key to OFF and then back to ON.

If you are having issues with the Passlock, we recommend having the vehicle taken to a dealership to check the issue and determine what would be the best solution to have the issue fixed.

This of course would cost me to have this done. I declined since this is an issue that a lot of individuals are having with their cars and I don't feel that we should have to pay for.
