The solenoid chip, located behind the steering column, failed and caused the entire vehicle to lock up. This failure occurred when the vehicle was restarted after it had been driven and parked. The parts the dealership replaced are 12458191 and 670487. Dealership indicated that this is a common failure with these vehicles. The two failures occured with 20000 miles of one another.

I have a 2001 Grand Am GT and it has problems starting sometimes. It has had a fuel pump, solonoids, and a new starter put in it within the past 2 weeks and nothing seems to be fixing the problem and I've only had the car for 2 months!!
