My 2001 Pontiac Grand Am just would not start. For no reason it just would not go. I read online that placing the key in the ignition for 10 minutes in the on position may make it start. It didn't. I then found a website that told me to put the key in the ignition in the ACC position for 15 minutes and it would start. It did. It turns out that the car thought I was trying to steal it and the security system shut the fuel system down. I hope this helps anyone else out there with this problem. GM really screwed this up by not recalling these vehicles.

Grand Am SE 3.2L

I have driven a ford for over 10 yrs and i was given a Grand Am that needed body work . So i grabbed it and did the body work figuring this will save me money on gas for traveling to and from work. Well as all you Grand Am owners know great on gas but, but when you go out to your car and go to start it and it just turns over big problem. My wife and I where going away on vacation and left work early to get to a head start on traffic. Well the Grand Am doesn't start, well not only won't the car start but my wife is pissed. towed car to garage left it with them and my wife picked me up pissed! going down the highway and the garage calls me and said the put it on the diagnostics and found nothing $300.00 later. i told them to keep the car for the weekend and keep trying it. never did it for about 6 months on my way to work and it won't start. get in my good old ford and down the road i go to work. told one of the guys to go on this forum and see if any one else has this problem . i was very concerned when i saw how many people have the same problem with their piece of crap GM . so i did the passlock procedure turn key to the on position for ten minutes and off i go. thanks everyone for your help. oh and the wife is still pissed

Your car won't start? Security light on sometimes and not other times? It could be a million things wrong or so you have been told? Yep that's me. The worst problem I have had with my car of 10years (I have got my money out of her) is the security/bypass/lock whatever, which will not allow my car to start, without resetting the security system. Yes turning the key to the on position and waiting 10 minutes, turning your car off then restarting the car works....for a little while. It happens all the time and it is happening more and more often. I live in a cold climate so it is a huge problem aside from being a pain in the aces! My battery is to the point where I have had to have a jump to start the dang thing because every 5 times I start the car it won’t start. I found this website http://www.bergerweb.net/AleroSecurity/index.shtml that offers a bypass solution. I hope it works. I'll let you know if it does. And here is a sort list of all the (i feel) manufacture issues I have experienced:

1.) 2 window regulator going out

2.) 2 fuel pump replacement

3.) A random clicking sound (like the hazards or turn signal is on, yeah i have torn into the steering column)

4.) The (&#HI(FU#@#$() car NOT STARTING!!!!

I just need to sell it before it's worth nothing if it is not already and get a new car.

Grand Am SE 3.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,015 miles

After reading all these posts, there is definitely a problem!! My husband was leaving for work when the car decided not to start. We bought the car used and was unaware of such problem!! If GM is not going to do anything about it, maybe there should be a class action lawsuit brought against the company. That would wake them up. By placing a solution in the owners manual, they knew some Grand Am owners would have this problem. Hmmmm.....
