Bought this 2002 Grand Am on July 22 at the Ford Dealership here in Mason City, Iowa and as soon as I drove down the street the turn signals quit working. Made an appointment for the next day to have it looked at and the mechanics could find nothing wrong as the turn signals started working after the car had been shut off and restarted. Now the change oil light came on and has stayed on even tho the oil was changed 2 weeks ago.

Blinkers will only work on occasion. They will light up when manually moved, but will not stay on. Also will make a clicking sound for a long time after using the blinkers. This is such a safety issue, as how are you supposed to be able to alert the drivers around you when turning, changing lanes, etc.

Turn signals do not work all the time. When they fail to work, you need to hit the hazard light switch for them to start working again. I did repalce the turn signal/multi function switch in the steering column, but that did not take care of the problem. I am being told the hazard light switch needs replaced. I understand there is a recall on 2001 & older models, but not on the 2002. I believe they need to expand the recall on these models. It's a 2002 modle, but the manufacture date is Sept. 2001. This is the car my daughter drives and it is not safe!! I plan to replace the hazzard light switch and will update if this corrects the problem.

The signal lights on my grand am will randomly stop working. Ive figured out that if I put my 4ways on for several seconds the lights will come back on, but sometimes it doesnt work. Living in a city with a 25 minute commute I NEED signal lights! Not only is it annoying, but extremely unsafe!

Blinkers don't work, I have to turn on the hazard lights then shut them off again. It triggers the blinkers to work again, most of the time. I recieved a letter from pontiac telling me that there is a malfunction in some switch. They will replace it, you just have to go to pontiac dealer.

The turn signals would occasionally not work or suddenly stop working. Giving the dash a good smack above the hazard light push button seemed to solve the problem temporarily. It seems like it could be an issue with the turn signal relay since it's located in the dash at that location.

I almost got ran off the road...trying to fiddle with getting the turn signal to work, and merging, no one knew I was forced to move over because of a lane closure...scary. I am going to contact the nearest dealer to see if they have any information. I called GM, and of course they said it's not on their "list".

My car kept making a very annoying clicking sound. It sounded as if the turn signal was on even when it wasn't. I had wishful thinking and thought the problem would eventually resolve itself. Unfortunately, I had to replace the multifunction switch which was located in the steering column. The new switch was made differently so the horn would always go off, so I had to take the fuse out for the horn. Now, I don't have a horn, but it's much better than living with a "clicking sound".

Most of the time when I go to turn on the blinkers they will not even come on at all. Which is very annoying and can be very dangerous when I need to do a sudden turn and don't have no blinker. I have to turn on the emergency blinkers to actually get my blinkers to work and most of the time I have to push the emergency blinkers button several times just to get the blinkers to work. Then once I have to blinkers working they just won't go off and I have to put up with the noise and I wind up pushing the emergency blinkers button for them to go off and ever now in then they will. But I believe it is a very dangerous problem because I could get rammed from behind for not having no blinkers. And it shouldn't be my fault!!!!!!!!!

The stupid blinkers do work, but once you start using them that damn ticking in the car never shuts up. This problem actually started in 2004, but at the time there was no rhyme or reason as to when it would do it, so getting it fixed was hard as the ticking would come and go whenever it felt like it. Then nothing for about three years and then the past couple of months (now out of warranty) it's gotten really bad. So bad that the ticking was driving me insane and my husband removed the ticker. The blinkers now light up, but won't blink, so everytime you change lanes or turn you have to turn the blinkers on then off then on then off. Really annoying and unsafe when you're trying to maneuver the car and watch the road, etc.

He replaced the hazard ticker for about $25, but that didn't solve the problem. The next item to be replaced is the main part in the steering column. $125 he said, so for now, we're just turning the blinkers on then off, then on, then off.

I've done some research online and have found that this is a common Pontiac Grand Am problem, however, recalls are only through 2000.

My husband and I noticed 1 day while driving that when we turned on the turn signal, it wouldnt work. We called around and the cheapest we could find to fix the problem (a bad multi-function switch) was $350... And thats not including labor! Not having that much money to spend, if the turning signal wont work we gently hit the top of the hazards and it will usually start working. Works for now while not having the money to spend on getting it fixed.
