My 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix received recall #09047. I brought it into morrisey Pontiac for the work. Three weeks after the car was supposedly "repaired", I had returned to my daughters house and not 5 minutes after that, we heard fire sirens and saw flashing lights outside. There were flames coming out of my hood shooting about 8 feet in the air. The firemen put the fire out, but there was nothing left to the front of my car. I notified morrisey Pontiac & was told that they repaired the car as per the General Motors recall & I should take up damages to my car with them. I filed a claim with General Motors file #681357. The person handling this claim is dawn mcguin. In speaking with Ms. Mcguin she said General Motors was not taking responsibility for the fire, but would offer me $2,600 for the damage. She told me this was the kelly blue book value of my car. When speaking with my insurance co. & the body shop where the car was taken, they both stated that my car is worth between $5,500 - $6,000. I then called Ms. Mcguin. When we started to review my car & its options she didn't have the correct model & all of the options. She then said she would get back to me, as of this date she has not. I have been very pleased with this vehicle since its purchase. I feel that the repair was either not done or not done correctly. What happened to the car was exactly what the recall & repair were supposed to prevent. Thank you for any assistance in this matter.

I was on my way home from work. I decided to stop and get gas before going home. I stopped got gas and when I started my car a little smoke came out the sides of the hood. I didn't think anything of it because it wasn T alot. And so I kept driving about 2 block away I had more smoke coming out. I was only 3 blocks from home so I decided to just get home. More and more smoke started coming out I lost a little power and then a flame shot into the car. I was headed up the hill to my house and still continued to lose power as I got right infront of my house I couldn't move forward and started rolling backwards down the hill and then my brakes gave out and the only thing that stopped me was the emergency brake. By this time flames were shooting out from under the hood. I grabbed everything that I thought was important, ran it into my house. Went back out, called the fire dept and ran into get my fire extinguisher but by that time the fire dept was there it took them about 10 min to put the fire out because we couldn't get the hood open and so just when we thought it was out it wasn't. finally when it was out they opened the hood. Everything under the hood was destroyed.

The contact owned a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. The contact stated that there were several incidents with minor sparks and flames under the hood of the vehicle. In the first incident, the engine cover melted onto the engine, and the spark plugs needed re-wiring. In the second incident, the engine melted the spark plugs and additional wiring. In the third incident, the contact parked the vehicle in the driveway after work. Minutes later, he noticed a small fire coming from the hood of the vehicle. She then proceeded to call 911 and, within minutes, the entire front end was engulfed in smoke. The failure turned into a full blown fire and the neighborhood was evacuated due to the danger of a possible explosion. The vehicle was towed to the junk yard. A police report was filed. Through online research, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign id number 08V118000 (engine and engine cooling) and was informed by GM that the VIN was included in the recall. The contact never received a recall notice in the mail. The current and failure mileages were slightly over 100,000.

Today about 15 minutes after parking my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix (gtp - supercharged), it was identified by a passerby as smoking and on fire. By the time the fire department could put it out, the care was destroyed. In looking online this is clearly a manufacturer defect (literally hundreds of repored fires). I am glad to see the investigation into this engine fire problem - but after ove a decade of reports, its clear that this hazzard has been long ignored and could cost lives in addition to property.

On the 16th of December 2007, my wife just got back from walmart. We unloaded some groceries and some christmas presents. We were in the house for 10-15 minutes when I notice an orange glow on our siding. I looked out the front door and saw her car on fire. I called 911 grabbed a water hose and notice that my truck was starting to smoke. I yelled at my wife to move my truck and I started to try to put the fire out until the fire department. They showed up 10-15 minutes later. And that was after my wife went and found them trying to locate our house. It took them to pop the hood open with a pry bar to be able to put the fire out. Everything under the hood was burnt and the fire started to melted the dash board. We consider ourselves very blessed that it wasn't park in the garage. My truck suffer a melted headlight, turn signal, bumper, bug shield, and some paint bubbled on the front passenger side fender.

On this morning (Tuesday Nov 27 2007) my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp suffered an unexplained fire in the engine department. The fire happened after I drove to work. I arrived at my place of work, parked, went to my office, and about ten minutes later I received a call from our company security that my vehicle was burning. The vehicle has been regularly serviced and maintained according to the suggested schedule at a Pontiac GMC dealer for the entire period that I have owned it (2001-present). There were no defects when driving and the car had been serviced only a couple weeks earlier. It has been driving without issue, so I am very surprised that it spontaneously ignited after being parked. I have read that this has happened to many other Grand Prix's and that the matter is under investigation. The engine compartment is damaged, but the first responders were able to extinguish the fire before it could spread to the rest of the car. The vehicle is available for inspection if that would help the investigation and I have some pictures as well.
