Millions of Pontiac model years ~2004 forward were recalled for failed power steering assist. A company executive asserted they'd make it right for everybody with the problem. My vehicle is not included in the recall and is not offered the service.

I plan to replace the rack and pinion myself because my experience with dealers has been uniformly very, very bad.

Whereas the car is otherwise in reasonable condition it would be difficult to sell in this condition.
