In May 2007 I brought the car in to the dealer because the Low Oil Light came on. Prior to owning this car, my husband and I were fanatic 3,000 mile oil change people. Which is what we did for this car when we first bought it. Then, because the owner's manual stated the "car will tell us when we need an oil change", which could be anywhere from 4,000 to 6,000 miles, I decided to try it. But, instead of "change your oil" I got the "low oil" light at approximately 16500 miles. The dealer tells me the car "uses" oil .... I countered, you mean "burns" oil. No, he says, it uses oil, and the TSB states losing 1 quart every 2,000 miles is acceptable! My husband couldn't believe it, so then spoke to the service manager, who agreed to change the valve guides, which seem to have worked for another customer. This was done at 16,712 miles in June 2007. Each time after that, instead of getting the change oil light, always got the low oil light. Finally, in April 2008 I went back to the dealer, stating this wasn't acceptable. Went through the "oil consumption test" the dealer insisted on, and, of course, showed 1/4 down at the end. So, rather than deal with all of this, I decided to go back to my 3,000 oil change routine, so I wouldn't have to worry about driving with no oil. Three days ago, 2/11/09, the low oil light went on at the 3100 mark! BUT, the car doesn't "burn" oil........yea, right!!
