Engine consistently burns at least a quart every 1500 miles. Dealer said they would have to do a test to determine if it was something to be concerned about. According to them, it is normal for this engine to burn up to one quart of oil every 2000 miles and it is considered to be excessive if it is more than a quart in 2000 miles.

The dealer may do the test, but good luck getting the repair covered under warranty.

Changed my oil in my 05 3 times since I owned it, every 3000 miles. Every 2000 miles or so, my low oil light comes on. I check it, and theres no oil in the block. No leaks found anywhere around the gaskets or heads. No cracked block. Heard its exhaust valve stem seals. How much is this going to cost to fix? I owe 8500 on a car worth only $5000. Many other issues. GM and Pontiac both unwilling to do anything since out of warrenty. Advice? DON'T BY PONTIAC. Customer service pain to deal with.

My wife said the low engine oil light came on and im like no way. I checked the oil level and it wasn't even on the dip stick. 3 quarts low??? How could this be??? I take very good car of my vehicles, it had only been 2200 miles since I changed the oil and the car has 50,000 miles on it. What the hell is going on?? No leaks, no smoking out the exhaust, if its burning it why isnt it smoking??? Help me please. Give me info on what to do.

In May 2007 I brought the car in to the dealer because the Low Oil Light came on. Prior to owning this car, my husband and I were fanatic 3,000 mile oil change people. Which is what we did for this car when we first bought it. Then, because the owner's manual stated the "car will tell us when we need an oil change", which could be anywhere from 4,000 to 6,000 miles, I decided to try it. But, instead of "change your oil" I got the "low oil" light at approximately 16500 miles. The dealer tells me the car "uses" oil .... I countered, you mean "burns" oil. No, he says, it uses oil, and the TSB states losing 1 quart every 2,000 miles is acceptable! My husband couldn't believe it, so then spoke to the service manager, who agreed to change the valve guides, which seem to have worked for another customer. This was done at 16,712 miles in June 2007. Each time after that, instead of getting the change oil light, always got the low oil light. Finally, in April 2008 I went back to the dealer, stating this wasn't acceptable. Went through the "oil consumption test" the dealer insisted on, and, of course, showed 1/4 down at the end. So, rather than deal with all of this, I decided to go back to my 3,000 oil change routine, so I wouldn't have to worry about driving with no oil. Three days ago, 2/11/09, the low oil light went on at the 3100 mark! BUT, the car doesn't "burn" oil........yea, right!!
