2006 heater no heat- air temp door broken- no GM help as recalls goes. Got to have heat to clean windshield in winter. Cost out of sight to fix. To me this should be a safty recall.

The was no warning leading up the incident, which can be a serious safety hazard in cold weather. The 2006 Pontiac Torrent heating & A/C actuator and blend door has broken causing only cold air to flow through the vehicle. There are many service warning notifications that have published on this issue. The only answer that I have received from Pontiac is that it is very labor intensive to fix (8-9 hours labor). This part is a major safety hazard since there is no warning signs that will indicate that these parts are defective. I was driving the vehicle on a colder evening, when the heat stopped working, causing the windshield to fog and obstruct my vision of the roadway. Thus nearly causing an accident. I had a service center look into the problem and notified me of the multitude of service warnings about this very issue.

I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent. The heater stopped working on a trip home for Florida. We live in Pennsylvania, so it is very cold here now. After doing some research on the internet, I have found that it is a temperature door that is broken. I took it to my mechanic, and he confirmed this. It is an 8 hr job to fix because you must remove the entire dash to get at this little $50 part. This seems to be a fairly common problem on these models, and I think that the company should be held responsible for it. It really seems to only happen on the 2006 model year, so it is like the plastic is weak or something. All you have to do is type in internet search, and say no heat on 2006 Pontiac Torrent, and you will see it is a widespread problem.

The software in the center instrument panel can cause the heating, air conditioning, defrost, and radio controls, as well as the panel illumination to become inoperative. This is exactly the same thing happening on the 2006 equinox and Pontiac Torrent and needs to be recalled to have the heater fixed just like the 2010 models so people don't get into accidents because their windows won't defrost.

2006 Pontiac Torrent - 500 miles on car - ambient temp 35 degrees F - defroster on high for approximately 10 minutes - vehicle equipped with auto dim rvm with temp and compass - mirror attach to windshield failed - mirror shot toward passenger compartment only restrained by wire harness - windshield delaminated at mounting point of inside mirror - layer of glass remained attached to mirror mount - windshield then cracked approx 20" in all directions from failure - on highway at 55 mph - startled - pulled off to see if w/S hit from exterior - no impact on exterior - failure appears to be a delamination at mirror mount possibly due to coefficient of expansion differences between mirror mount and windshield.
