NHTSA — Vehicle Speed Control: Cruise Control Problems

CarComplaints.com Seal Of This Might Hurt

CarComplaints.com Notes: The Saturn Aura was a mid-size car meant to replace the somewhat problematic L-Series. Unfortunately, the Aura brought its own problems: namely cheap brake parts that needed early replacement and a gear shifter that could say it’s in park while the transmission was still engaged.

Brake problems, including uneven wear and warped rotors that cause the car to wobble, are common complaints from 2007 owners. Did GM use metal for its rotors that can’t stand the heat? That’s what some say, and it’s hard to argue when reports show that rotors could start to warp as early as 500 miles off the dealer lot.

Meanwhile, a busted gear shifter cable lead to some unwanted rollaways. That’s because the shifter could say “Park” while the transmission was still in drive, reverse or neutral. A defect investigation into the issue was opened in 2011, eventually leading to a recall of 56,000 vehicles in 2014.

The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Aura. The contact stated that a recall repair was completed by the dealer and the failure recurred months later. The contact indicated that the cruise control feature failed to work and, when applying the brake pedal, the light did not illuminate. The brake light remained illuminated when it was not applied. The manufacturer's recall remedy did not repair the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake light switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000. Updated 02/05/16

Brake lights malfunction on the 2007 Saturn Aura. Depress the accelerator and the brake lights engage - then press the brake and the brake lights turn off... reverse of how they should work. When the brake lights are on they may or may not stay on - it is unpredictable. A recall is listed online (GM recall number 13036; NHTSA campaign number 14V252000). Calling GM (1.800.462.8782) and Saturn (1.800.553.6000) resulted in no help - they acknowledge the recall but have not associated vins or released it to dealers. This is a safety issue. The recall needs to be released immediately and when vehicles are identified to have this issue they should be cleared to be fixed immediately under the warranty.

My car has electrical problems related tothe connector for the computer inside the dash just as noted under NHTSA recall# 14V252000. I am certain this is the problem because following advice I found online before the recall was issued I used an electronics cleaner on the connector and it helped but did not fix the problem. My brake lights either don't work or stick on. My left turn signal doesn't work. If I disconnect and reconnect the plug several times in seems to make it work but only for a short while so I know for sure this is the problem. I've checked my VIN and for some reason GM has not included my car in the recall. This is B.S. prior to the recall I paid GM dealerships several times to fix the issue and they failed each time. Now they have a recall for the exact problem my car has but they are trying to not include my car even though the recall is for 2007 Saturn Aura's with the exact problem my car has. I cant use my car because I cant get an inspection sticker due to the brake lights and turn signal not working. Its a freaking lawn ornament.
