Power Door Lock Failure

CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2008 Aura’s issues with brakes, such as worn out rotors, isn’t as severe as the prior model year, but let’s just not start awarding them any brake awards just yet. Does that even exist? “The Brakies”?

One thing the 2008 does share with the 2007 is a recall of a busted gear shifter cable which can make it look like your car is in park, when the transmission is still engaged. You can only imagine what kind of fun that causes.

I took my car in to get some recalls fixed and wanted them to check my back door locks that have not been working by either key fob or driver door lock and they told me that not only are the back not working but the front passenger lock also. They said that the door lock motors have failed...WHAT??? 3 door lock motors failed? Sounds like something wrong with the type or part they used...they want over a $1000 to fix the 3 and of course they are no longer covered by warranty. I know several people with much older cars and the door lock motors have never gone bad. This is a safety concern and I think Saturn needs to fix as I have seen other complaints for the same issue!!!!

The door locks will lock/unlock randomly whether the vehicle is in operation or parked and not running. Drivers door would not unlock from outside or inside, with Fob, key or manually from inside. Took it to a reputable repair shop but they said it was a safety hazard and we had to take it to a GM Dealer for repair. (Safety hazard: i.e. in the case of an accident and cannot get in or out of the vehicle because the electronic door locks are not operational). Repair person had the same problem. Took it to the dealership and they said automatically we would be charged with a $115 diagnostic check fee plus repairs. I see many complaints about this same problem on line.

Update from Mar 1, 2016: Took vehicle to Dellen Automotive in Greenfield, IN and they charged $230 just for diagnostic, and quoted an additional $650 for BCM replacement.

This is a SAFETY concern. There were two separate instances where the driver side door would not unlock from the inside, or the outside until after several attempts, then using the passenger side door. What if this happened during an accident or fire? There are many complaints on Mitchell and other car complaint sites for this same problem.

Aura XR 3.6L

After the RR lock failed to respond to fobs, automatic lock/unlock, when put in gear or into park just after the 36,000 mile warranty, and was replaced at my own expense, the other three gradually failed over the next year or about 10,000 miles. The dealership who assumed the Saturn repair wants to charge $800 for the three other doors. It is obvious that this is a part defect or other issue related to Saturn--all four locks failing by around 50,000 miles. If such a basic item of ordinary use fails completely (all four doors) their is most likely an issue with GM. We use the car with fairly minimal locking and unlocking of the doors likely averaging a few times a day. That there is not an extended warranty for this is ridiculous. We have also had some quirky electrical issues never solved by Saturn under warranty--separate items. I have been a GM owner since my first chevy and then GTO, but it is time to consider some other brands since they have shut down Saturn and Pontiac, the two brands I currently own, and they are obviously still not taking responsibility for poor design of these locks
