The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While the vehicle was parked, a strong odor of fuel was observed. The contact noticed fuel leaking from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that they experienced the same failures explained in NHTSA campaign number: 13E043000 (fuel system), but the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 19,000. The VIN was invalid. Updated 06/29/16 the consumer stated the fuel return line at the fuel pump broke, due to bad plastic. Fuel began leaking on the tank and the exhaust. The fuel pump was replaced. Updated 08/02/16.

The contact owns a 2008 Saturn Aura. While filling the tank with fuel at a service station, the contact observed a gasoline leak coming from the fuel tank underneath the vehicle. He noticed a stream of gasoline on the ground. The fire department was called to the scene for safety concerns. The vehicle is currently being towed to an authorized dealer. The failure and current mileages were 4,000. Phone interview update (Jul-09-2008): The complainant did not realize for a while that the fuel tank was leaking while he was refueling it. He estimated that four gallon of gasoline was spilled. The Saturn dealer told him that something connecting to the fuel tank was leaking and that the fuel tank had to be replaced. The vehicle was still at the Saturn dealership awaiting repair.
