The contact owns a 2007 Saturn Ion. While the contact was driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel with a loss of power steering. The contact was able to continue in operation. The failure occurred intermittently and progressed over a period of time when traveling at any speed. The failure could be temporarily corrected whenever the engine was turned off and restarted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to locate the cause of failure. The contact was in the process of taking the vehicle to a an authorized dealer to be repaired. The failure mileage was 60,500.

Power steering fails. The power steering quits working while driving making the vehicle operate w/O the aid of power steering. This is a safety issue if a driver had to make a sudden turn to avoid a road obstruction of another car.

I want to file a complaint about the power steering motor on the 2007 Saturn Ion. I have read about many people complaining about this particular motor but they recalled the other automobiles that used the same one but not the Saturn. This is very dangerous and will cause someone to get seriously injured due to a malfunction part.

2007 Saturn Ion 2 power steering motor failure, the power steering motor stops working causing the steering to lock up. This has been recalled on the on the Chevy cobalt for 05 to 2010. Also on the Pontiac G5 for the same years, the Saturn is using the same part numbers.the car has lost steering coming around a mountain curve that has a sever drop off fortunately was on the opposite side of road. Saturn will not cover these in a recall.

I have a Saturn 2007 Ion with 35,000 miles on it. Driving down the road I had a chime and a light go on that read pwr str. Went to make a sharp turn and I could not steer my car!! if there had been a car there I would have crashed with 2 small children in the car. Went home and read on internet to find out where the power steering fluid and goes and found out that there is no fluid. After reading I found out that it happens to all Saturn after so many miles!!! they recalled the Chevy for the same problem but not the Saturn. You can turn off and on and it's fixed for the time being but always happens a couple times a day. Please make GM recall the Saturn before someone gets hurt!!

While driving vehicle the power steering cuts out. This began happening periodically once or twice a month but now is happening all the time. It is now cutting out about every 5 minutes or more which makes the car very difficult and dangerous to drive and impossible for my wife to drive. When it initially happened I brought the car to the dealership and was told it would cost about $500 because the electric motor of the power steering is bad (shorting out) and it is no longer covered under warranty. At the time the car had about 45,000 miles on it.

I drive a 2007 Saturn Ion, and from what I can tell online this is a huge problem that GM has and it has not been resolved or recalled. I got home from work and went to turn the key off and it would not turn off. The key was stuck. I have talked to several GM dealers and they all say it's a well known problem but still expect me to pay around 500 dollars to fix it. I would understand if this was normal wear and tear but it's not. This is something that is defective and known about. GM either made these intentionally this way to scam in money or really screwed up and should fix it. This could of gone a lot differently what if the car would of locked up while driving and locked out the steering wheel? something needs to be done about this and I don't know if it is all Saturn or just the Ion model but it seems to be something that has gone on for sometime. As tax payers we bailed them out of financial problems and this is how we are repaid and treated. Please make GM do a recall on the Saturn ignitions immediately. I have a 10 month old and stuff like this scares me.

Power steering went out on 2007 Saturn Ion. 1st time: Going 30-35 miles an hour merging into another lane, about to turn left when steering became difficult to manage and the indicator light for the power steering came on the dashboard. 2nd time: Going around 30 miles an hour, taking a sharp left curve when steering went out again and was very difficult to make the turn, indicator light came on. Both instances caused an very dangerous, unpredictable situation. Vehicle was taken to dealer where they replaced a failed power steering assist motor. Not covered by recall or warranty.

Since December, the power steering goes out several times a week on my 2007 Saturn Ion. I have not had the money to fix it, but it appears that many others are having the same problem. It appears to be a similar problem to a recall that has already been made for other GM models with a power steering motor on the steering column. If I stop and turn the car off and back on, it fixes itself. We are unsure about how to go about having the problem diagnosed and corrected given that Saturn no longer exists.

Ion

  • 62,000 miles
The power steering motor on my 2007 Saturn Ion failed at very low speed without incident. I have learned that this same motor has been recalled in the Chevrolet cobalt (mechanically identical). This recall should have been extended to cover all similar models because of the safety issues involved. GM is attempting to limit its monetary and publicity exposure. The NHTSA should not let them get away with this. All safety issues should be dealt with strenuously by NHTSA. Your approach should be: If it's a safety issue, get it fixed. Period.
