2006 Scion Xa check engine light with diagnostic codes: P2401, P043E, P043F, P2419, P2402 indicating "evaporation leak/emission problems." There apparently are service bulletins out on this issue and Toyota will not acknowledge that this is a widespread issue with the Xa model. Toyota wants over $700 to repair a known defect and will not help with cost of repair. Toyota is charging consumers the cost of repairing a defective evaporation system in order to comply with epa standards therefore the NHTSA should issue a recall of the defective product(s) - see tsb #: EG047-06. Updated 02/04/14.

I own a 2006 Scion Xa. I have had to replace three of the electric window controls, and the emission system keeps having problems. Check engine light keeps going on. This happens when the vehicle is running, in motion and stationary.

Hi! I bought 2006 Scion Xa. While driving the vehicle it seems to make noise while I'm backing up and step on the brake. It sounds like something is going to fall off the back. I am scared to go for a long drive. Also, when it's raining I have a feeling that my car is going to lose control and it could cause an accident. I am willing to get an inspection at no cost to me, so I can keep vehicle without worrying. I greatly appreciate that, thanks and god bless!

I own a 2006 Scion Xa. I bought the car new off of the show room. After 5 months of owning the car the check engine light came on. I took the car back to the dealership that it was purchased from. They checked it with the code reader. The codes were P2401- evap leak detection pump stuck on, P043E- evap leak detection orifice low flow, evap leak detection pump stuck off, P2419- evap pressure switching valve stuck on, P043F- evap leak detection orifice flow high. The dealer replaced 4 parts fuel tank filler pipe cover, filler pipe cover holder, charcoal caniste, and charcoal canister filter. They replaced the parts at no charge. I drove the car for almost 2 years and now the light has come back on for the same codes. I now have to replace the same four parts in a car that is less then 3 years old.

2006 Scion Xa comes from the factory with improperly gaped denso spark plugs they are gaped at 23 thousandths this causes the car to run rich causing tons of potential sensor failures. Denso specifically states that their plugs are to be gaped to 44 thousandths we own two Xa the same year and both cars had the same plugs both were gaped wrong and both cars had plugs that were fouled out at less than 400 miles this is a major problem that needs to be corrected Scion acknowledged the problem to me but refused to repair it under warranty and refused to issue a recall they don't care that this is a major problem effecting cars and the environment I pulled the plugs on a friends 2004 model and they were gaped improperly as well and he has had to spend thousands replacing sensors that were all caused by his car running rich please help cnn is looking into running this as a breaking story and it needs to be addressed. Also the paint on these cars have already begun to chip this is highly unusual for a new car I suspect a very cheap paint job with insufficient clear coat please investigate.
