Car sounded like an airplane engine! Had about 20,000 miles on it. Turned out to be the left rear wheel bearing. Replaced it (under warranty) with another Forester bearing. About 1 year later problem started again. Different dealership (in Jacksonville, FL) where the mechanic was HONEST! Said Subaru had changed bearing design and had a lot of complaints of premature wearing. He replaced it with a Legacy bearing and we have had no problems since (car has >150,000 miles).
