CarComplaints.com Notes: Is burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles normal? Depends on who you ask. While Subaru says it's within "normal specifications," owners wonder why they need to top off their oil reservoir 4 times between every 5,000 mile oil change.

Pulled into full service car wash, and they came in and told me the car wouldn’t move. I had it towed to the dealership. They told me later they had checked everything, then decided to take the pan off, and when they did, parts fell out everywhere. They were surprised there was no noise when this happened, but there wasn’t. They replaced it and told me if I’d had to pay for it, it would have been $7K.

Forester 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 121,000 miles

We purchased the Subaru Forester for its reputation of being a well built long lasting car with excellent resale value. Our 2014 forester now has a transmission that has completely failed, and will cost $7000 to fix. We expected to keep this car for well over 10 years, and now the car is completely worthless. Transmissions, especially CVT transmissions should last longer that 5 years. We have done regular maintenance and care for this car. I will NEVER, EVER, EVER recommend a Subaru to anyone. LEMON!!!

Forester 2.0L Xt

  • Automatic transmission
  • 29,000 miles

Stopped on a red light but when the traffic light turned green, I stepped on the gas and Forester won't move. Tried turning it on and off and same thing, it just won't move. I even noticed that the air coming from the vent is hot air - this is mid-September in Utah and today we're in high-80s so that's making it even worse. I just had a 30,000 miles maintenance 5days ago so I called in Mark Miller Subaru (couple blocks from where this happened) where they immediately sent a Service guy who helped me pulled it on the side of the road and here came Service Manager in couple minutes too (what an excellent backup and support from the dealership). It's currently at the shop for diagnostics and for the meantime was given a loaner to drive (now that's customer service). Hopefully they'll find out what's wrong and fix it. And hopefully, this will never happen again, not on a rush hour in a heavy traffic road :-( I used to drive a Honda Civic which is half the price of Subaru Forester and never had this issue - actually never had an issue at all till I just got tired driving it since it won't give up on me and needed a bigger, more spacious car. Will update once I have the subie back.
