When I bought the car (07/22/14) the lifetime gas mileage, displayed on the touchscreen panel in the info menu, kept on rising until it reached 76.2 mpg. Originally, it had stayed at roughly 58 mpg (from what I remember), until I took a road trip from NY to NC. While driving on the highways, I was getting great mpg (dash trip economy was roughly 38 mpg for the trip to and from). The lifetime mileage rose to 76.2 mpg by the end of the trip, and stayed there permanently.

During Fall '15, I took my car to the Dealer twice (to fix an annoying air bubble like noise when accelerating) and asked them to check the lifetime mpg reading both times, but they never did, or just never fixed the problem.

At 41k miles (03/10/16), I pulled the battery connections off to reset my computer (in hopes of fixing the air bubble noises) and the lifetime mileage was reset. I am curious to see what will happen to it.

The electronic fuel history is a feature in the 2015 Outback which we paid dearly for. As much as we would like to believe that our lifetime fuel average is 42.7 mpg, it is NOT possible. (It continues to climb!) There is probably an error in the software. When calling the dealership, we were told that it is averaging the downhill mileage with the other. Of course we know this is an average, but it should be taken into account for the cumulative average of ups and downs, city and country. The dealership was less than helpful and offered no fix. In other words, he thought we should just live with it and believe what he said. We see that others are having this problem. Subaru needs to do what they do best--SOLVE the problem!
