It turns out I was stupid enough to buy two of these 2016 Subaru Outbacks loaded to the gills with line site, leather, wheels, etc. $75000 worth. I drive more than my wife, hers has approximately 6800 miles one oil change so far. Mine has 18250 miles and have personally changed the oil 3 times.

The very first time at 4500 miles it was down a quart. At that time I didn't believe it, passed it off as maybe an error, break in, who knows... I have purchased new vehicles a plenty and never seen this though. 2nd and third changes, same effect and very discouraging. At the same time I have had some electronic issues with the data center freezing up until the car is restarted. 2 days ago the engine light came on indicating low oil at the same time another computer freeze up, so I passed it off as a data center issue and took it into the dealer to show the erroneous readings. They said that there was a data center logic update that needed to be done.

Next day in the shop that update was performed. In route home after picking up my car the oil light came on again and so I called the dealer and said the computer update must not have corrected the problem. Scheduled to return it the next day...(today).. but decided to pull over and actually check the oil. Oil level was barely on the dipstick, down 1 and 1/2 quarts and had only been running on this oil change 2800 miles.

I don't care what Subaru is claiming this is not normal use for a new vehicle. I have had Toyotas and Hondas that they now recommend oil changes every 10000 miles (using synthetic oil) and my 2011 Camry don't use 1/2 quart in 10000miles. Very frustrated, the dealer is offering to do an oil analysis where I come in every 1200 miles to document no more use that 1/3 of a quart which is the acceptable amount to them...That is 1 quart for every 3000 miles...on a new vehicle????? are you kidding me... where is that oil going??? and what will the oil consumption be at 100,000 miles.

I wish I had my $70,000 dollars back and I could choose my new vehicles over again. It should be absolutely mandatory that a dealer reveals this information prior to selling a vehicle. I have since found out that they have a pending law suit for excessive oil use in the 2013 models....What about my new 2016????
