CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

Recently became the owner of 04 4runner with what we thought at first glance were new tires. After poor driving conditions and checking the tires we found both front tires with tread chunking off in medium pieces and are unsafe. Both rear tires are fine. We live on a pretty small island where daily drives are at most probably 50 miles max if that. These tires are complete crap and need to be recalled before someone gets hurt. I will never run a Michelin tire again due to this. Obviously the company cares more about profit than lives. P165 70R17 latitute tour dot B7kp 004X 1014

Vibration is felt in steering wheel at highway speeds (55 mph or higher). This is especially present when steering wheel is turned slightly to the right. Have had tires rebalanced with no change in vibration. Problem has been with vehicle since purchase. Tire replacement and rotation does not correct vibration.
