CarComplaints.com Notes: Although it has a stellar record in terms of vehicle problems, initially the 4th generation (2003 - 2009) 4Runner didn't earn our top "Seal of Awesome" rating because it received poor crash test ratings for rear impacts. However it's proven to have one of the lowest driver death rates out of all vehicles (not just SUVs), so we've bumped it back up to our top award.

Steering has knocking sound while turning left or right, it started at about 62000 miles. Also replaced coil pack #2 and # 4 at 49000 miles had another go out a year later, dealership told me to replace the remaining 4 coil packs, by only replacing the corruped one will cause the ohers to fail.

2006 Toyota 4runner. I was quoted $1,500 for a time cover oil leak repair in lakeland, fl. There was a tsb issued 2007 (EG049-07). Apparently, most of the charge is for labor, the replacement part is not expensive. I understand the avalon has the same problem. This repair cost is astronomical, especially considering that it's a commonly known problem in Toyota - possibly from poor design. I don't think the consumer should have to absorb the cost of this repair. Hopefully, something is being done to help the consumer.

Exhaust is being pulled into back window when cracked and the vehicle resets the air flow to recycle. I crack the back window to allow heat to escape and had the air flow set on fresh air. I make a stop and get back into the car the window is still cracked. Some time later there is a smell of exhaust and I realize the flow was reset and fumes are getting pulled into the vehicle. The biggest problem is my child is in the back seat and she is already choking when the odor gets to me.
