problem #6

Camry 4.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 249,500 miles

At first my car would "jerk" going up a hill going over 50 miles an hour. Then it went to where it wouldn't go over 50 miles an hour period. Then it was fine for a couple months, but starting about 2 weeks ago, if I go over 3,000 RPM it would "jerk", the check engine light would come on, the RPM gauge would flicker, and sometimes my hot/cold gauge would flicker. Starting last night, if I stop at a stop light or stop sign, when I go to accelerate, I can only go about 10mph while it's jerking for about 50-100ft then it does fine until 3,000 RPM or over 50 mph.

Does anyone have any idea what it is? I've taken it to 4 mechanics and they all have their theories, but then they drive it and come back and just shrug their shoulders.

my Toyota would would want to cut off once i decelerated (ex. getting off interstate exit), to avoid it cutting i would quickly put my car in neutral and give it gas to rev it car. if you do it right when the engine wants to cut off, it will not

Camry LX V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,000 miles

My car would surge but also act like it was missing, then the check engine light came on, i took it to the dealer and they reset the light saying it ran fine . ok, i went to get on the freeway and accelerated, the light was back on it got so bad so fast that that darn light started blinking at me and my car almost shut down. Back to the dealer, Should have cost 300.00 but they couldn't get the sensor off the rear manifold so had to replace that too. I paid 1,150.00 for 250.00 worth of parts, an air fuel ratio sensor and a rear manifold.

Camry LE 2.2L

This surge just like previously reported. I'm suspecting the air flow meter (maybe it get stuck at times) or the speed sensor fluctuating??

Camry XLE

  • 47,000 miles

I was coming into my garage and was ready to put it into park when it took off, so I quickly put my foot on the brake (I have three witnesses) and it still didn't stop. It crashed into the house. Scary and nothing was wrong with the car according the place I took it to check it over.

Camry LE

  • 123,000 miles

Sometimes the engine will surge (and the rpm guage will bounce with the surging) after I slow down or come to a stop after getting off of a highway (or just after driving at speeds of 65 mph or more). If I put the car in park and rev the engine really high once, it will idle fine. At first it would only surge when I was not accelerating, but lately, when it does it, I can feel it when I'm doing about 50 mph or less also.
