While driving the car at about 40 mph on the road, it suddenly accelerated. I applied the brake and the car kept going at the accelerated speed for about 3/4 mile. It finally slowed enough for me to turn off the road into a housing complex. I then was able to put it in park. The car kept idling at the same rate even while in park position. Smoke started coming from under the hood; therefore, I got out and within 1 minute, it went up in flames. The police & fire truck came and put out the flames. The car is a total loss.

When you are at a full stop or at a red light, or stop and go traffic. When you start to mash the gas pedal down the car does not move.everyone is moving beside you and behind you and you are lucky if you don't get rear ended. So far we have been lucky.when you keep trying it will finally go. It will jerk you head back sometimes. So I thought it might be the cable on the speed control going bad. Sticking or whatever. I am not a specilist on saying what it my be.but it does need to be repaired.

While I was reversing my 2000 Toyota Camry slowly and carefully in a car dealership parking lot, my car went into a sudden unintended rapid acceleration. I did not initiate the acceleration. I braked. My car did not slow or stop. I pulled the emergency brake. My car did not slow or stop. My car proceeded to the entrance of the parking lot, broke through a link chain between two poles, crossed the sidewalk, crossed the street, mounted the sidewalk on the opposite side of the street and hit the back of a building. The impact with the building stopped my car. My car was totaled. Injuries of the head, neck and back were sustained.
