CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

The dashboard of our 2007 Toyota Camry is melting. There have been no chemicals used on the dashboard what so ever. It has always only been cleaned with water. The melting is pronounced more as the dashboard nears the bottom of the windshield. It is now very sticky and is completely ruined. Most importantly, since melting, it has become very shiny. It creates a horrible glare of bright sunlight directly into your eyes as you drive. It is a serious safety issue and there is nothing you can do about it. It is almost like a mirror directly on top of your dash. I have contacted Toyota and they will not acknowledge that this is a manufacturer's defect. They state the dash will have to be replaced at my expense. I have found numerous reports from other Camry owner's with the same complaint. Please help.

Dropping my kid off at school one morning and it was very sunny. We were late that morning so a school attendant closed one side of the gate. The sun was very bright and because my dash is melting, the sun but a glare on the windshield. I was able to see the driver side of the gate was open but I wasn't able to see the passenger side of the gate was closed (large glare on windshield). I was able to make out that there were no children around to process to go through the gate but couldn't confirm that the passenger side of gate was closed. Driver side of gate was open so I never would have thought the other side would be closed. Put a big dint in my car by passenger side front window. I even had sunshades on. Took all percussions other than getting out of car to look. Didn't think it was something mandatory for me to do. I have contacted Toyota several times because of the melting dashboard even before the accident.

I reported the sticky dash problem to dealership at about 60,000 miles in 09 along with the steering wheel material falling apart. This problem has only gotten worse to the point where my dash is creating a glare on the windshield. I think there should be a recall for original owners as this can be a safety hazard. Full recall should be mandatory. But if owner has to pay it should be very little. Maybe like 500 instead of the 1800$ quote I got from the dealership. I've owned other cars in Florida and never had this problem. I'm kinda disappointed that Toyota will not take care of this problem and this will affect my buying decision in the future unless they fix it since this will affect my trade in value.

"melting" dashboard in heat is a serious problem. It gets sticky like duct tape and ultimately weakens and ruins the upholstery on the dash. Toyota needs to step up and correct this issue. It's a serious one.

My 2007 Toyota Camry has the dashboard all melted. This causes a tremendous amount of glare while driving during the day and you cant see through the windshield. I've looked over the internet aswell as talked with friends and family and this is an ongoing problem with these Camry models. Looks like a manufacture defect that Toyota does not want to replace. Every year I contact them and its the same answer that it is not covered under warranty. Please help !!!

My 2007 Toyota Camry's dashboard is melting. It's like someone has poured honey or syrup all over it. I first noticed it this summer and it has progressively gotten worse. I have tried to clean it with windex and a paper towel or a dry cloth. It now has paper towel pieces stuck all over it and the dust is permanently on the dash because it won't wipe off. There is also a glare on the windshield and a horrible substance on the inside of the windshield that cannot be wiped off no matter how much you clean it, it just smears. This causes difficulties driving at night. God only knows what chemicals are being released inside the vehicle that we are all inhaling! I have taken my car to round rock Toyota in round rock, tx and they basically told me how awful it was but they couldn't/wouldn't help me unless I wanted to purchase a new dash board for my car. From my reading on the internet I have found that there are many people with this same problem and Toyota is doing absolutely nothing to make amends for the defective materials they have used in these vehicles. I cannot sell my car like this and I'm sure it will effect the value of my car should I ever try to replace it.

My dashboard is melting. It's become extremely sticky and shiny. I do not use any chemicals or other products on the dashboard.this seems to be a very well known problem with so many customers reporting the same problem and yet Toyota does not recall. The plastic is failing. It's dangerous because it's so terribly shiny.

I purchased this 2007 Toyota Camry from carmax in July 2013. Following the purchase, I noticed the dashboard was sticky and thought maybe some type of detailing cleaner had been used on it. The dashboard is sticky because it is melting in the heat. The shiny, melting dashboard causes a glare on the front windshield affecting visibility.

My dashboard is sticky and melting. Nothing can be put on it. The windshield protector so it doesn't get real hot inside got stuck to dashboard and not big hole in the dashboard. When I am driving sometimes the glare is so striking that it gives you a blindspot. This is very dangerous and I would like to know if you all are going to replace it.
