Huge win for car owners! All TSBs to be made public. The Center for Auto Safety just made the NHTSA (US Government) make public the full text of all TSBs from now on. They are the same organization that has petitioned the NHTSA & filed lawsuits to protect car owners over exploding gas tanks & other major safety issues. Whenever you drive in your car, you are safer thanks in part to a lot of work over the years by this small but very effective consumer advocacy group.

Please take a moment & say thank you by donating $5 or whatever you can to the Center for Auto Safety.

CarComplaints.com Notes: An increasing number of Toyotas are experiencing excessive oil consumption and the 2007 Camry seems to be leading the charge.

Owners are reporting that their engines are deprived of oil halfway through their maintenance schedules and in some cases the damage is so bad that entirely new engines need to be installed, paid out of pocket. The issue may be a result of defective piston rings and is the possible target of a class-action lawsuit.

Toyota has issued a TSB for this problem, but maintains their stance that vehicles equipped with a 2AZ-FE engine are burning through a “normal” amount of oil.

Dashboard has been melting for several weeks and now is cracked open. Dashboard cover material from windshield to radio and across full width of vehicle is very sickly, cannot be cleaned without leaving cloth lint embedded in the dash cover material, is structurally unstable and too soft to touch without leaving damage and will easily peal off under fingernails. Light reflection from dashboard is greatly increased and at times distracting. No other interior parts ie plastic, metal, leather, carpet or cloth are affected.

I purchased this automobile new in 2007. Approx 2 years ago the dash board started to melt. It is presently very soft and sticky to the touch. If you touch it with anything firm like a finger of edge of a sun visor it leaves a permanent mark. Small pieces are coming off the edges of the dash over the navigation screen. Car has always been in the garage when at home and I have always used a sun visor when parked away from home.

I was parked in a parking garage with the car running I was speaking on the phone via the vehicles bluetooth. Upon ending the call I exited the car to ensure it was parked properly between the lines and close enough to the wall in front of the parking space. I then retrieved my laptop bag, coat and hat from the drivers side backseat. I put my coat on closed it up, put on my hat and extended the arm on my laptop bag. I then closed the back door and turned to retrieve items from the front seat and turn off the vehicle. As I turned to return to return to the front seat door the car flew out of the parking space. As the car passed me and the car beside me the front door swung completely open. I ran and chased the car for fear it might hit someone and also assuming I did not place the car in park. Upon jumping into the moving car the first thing that hit me was the bright "P" lit up on the dash indicating the car was already in park. I attempted to apply the brakes and also constantly pushing the gear up. Finally both my actions and the cars acceleration were stopped by the slamming of the car into a cement wall. While I have no recollection of the actual impact the visible signs upon my body were a large red knot over my right eye as well as scraped and bloody knees. After finally turning the car off the car failed to start up again. The incident was reported by my husband to the car manufacturer the day of the incident and while they provided us with a 60 day maximum timeframe the time has lapsed and we still have heard nothing from the manufacturer. Note: Mileage is approximate.

Kumho tire. Left front wheel. The tread separated and the treaded part broke causing extensive damage to the left fender, fender lining, left body panel below both doors, the front bumper, the left headlight electrical system and possibly other front end damage. Driver did not hit anything on the freeway and was able to come to a safe stop without hitting anything else. This, and the other three tires on the car were purchased from discount tire on 08/04/2010, and they only have about 41,000 miles on them.

Water leaking in the headliner, causing the foot wells to be wet. The drain line from the moon roof "gutter" disconnected from the drain line pan and water drains and accumulates in the foot well. During cold weather conditions there is an extreme condensation built-up on the interior of windows. Use of heater will generate high humidity in the cabin and fogging of the window. The fluid in the cabin along with the heating and cooling at night has created a problem cycle.

Vehicle started from parked condition. As operator tapped the gas pedal lightly to take it out of parked condition, the vehicle suddenly had a very high speed causing loss of control and the vehicle hit a house. Apparently it caused a open throttle condition. Pressing brake only aggravated the condition (adding more speed). This happened with an experienced driver with over 10 years of driving record and 0 incident (not even a parking ticket). All earlier recall were done by dealer.

I own a Toyota Camry 2007 and the dashboard is melting and has created shiny dashboard. I have cleaned with plain water/damp cloth but it is not getting better. I have a friend who also owns Camry 2007 and is facing same problem. I have maintained my car very well and this is surely manufacturing defect. On December 1st this year and I met with an accident because of melting dashboard and shiny dashboard that created glare in my eyes. Thank god, no one was injured. I have also read online that many people who own Toyota Camry 2007 are facing same problem.
